    Rat on the loose!

Ok....long story short last week some wise ass let a feeder rat loose in my house. Was a weanling....So after only hearing slight noises here and there in the kitchen an no visual on the thing I was starting to think the thing was dead. I had a trap set that is suppose to close the thing in there once it goes in to get the bait....nothing...So today I come home and as I round the corner I catch a glimpse of his tail crawl under the dishwasher...Come back down stairs about an hour later and catch the thing behind the cats water bowl and it scurries back under the dishwasher....Soooo I take apart the bottom of the diahwasher and see that this is apparently where the Rat has decided to take up residence....Tonight I place a glue trap in there baited with cheese....5 minutes pass and I notice the glue trap sticking out from under Stewarts home (dishwasher LOL) I touch it and realize he is stuck! So I take apart the bottom of the dishwasher and as I reach for him..he panics and gets loose and runs into a hole where a pipe is...into the wall...This is his escape route.....Now Im PO'ed LOL I set another glue trap against the wall...a snap trap and the door trap...So now it is a menagerie on traps behind the dish washer....Five minutes later I slowly lift the panel and look and see his feet...let him be.....then BOOM! the snap trap goes off! Got him!...Nope look under there and the trap is popped and no sign of Stewart....Does anyone have any tips on catching this guy? Next step is poison but dont really want him dieing in the walls....He is now wanted DEAD or ALIVE!

lol..I know this probably isnt the right subforum but I need some help with this guy

    Been here, done this

I agree, patience and a spring trap loaded with peanut butter is about the best recourse.

I had a rat on the loose for 3 weeks and 2 days.

The best mouse/rat trap in the world finally did him in - my cat.

    Re: Rat on the loose!

How about trying those traps that catches them....like the humane ones?? Don't know what else to tell you....they are smart....he knows the other ones now. Something he has to walk into and the door closes is the only thing I can think of. Sorry...

Patience! Rats generally develop habits. Once you've figured out where he's spending most of his time try to block him off and grab him with some tongs. I generally have my Jack Russell help me out.

Yeah I have come to the conclusion that he is staying behind the dishwasher most of the time. Do you think the Dcon poison or something like that will work? I have had one of the humane traps set up for a week and he is not having any of that thing.
