Why is my BP spending so much time in the water bowl?

She seems to be spending more time than usual in the water bowl; more time than usual beingonce or twice a day for 5+ minutes. Why is this? I checked for mites, didn't find anything. I'm scared.

The temps seem fine. What would be considere long for a BP to soak? I was under the impression that they just drank water and passed through the bowl moreso than actually soak in it.

My yellow belly once sat in his dish for 13 hours, I believe it to be longer except I had to go to sleep. I woke up and he was still in it. He was in Shed though. When BPs get ready to shed they will start soaking. Once they shed, they just seem to drink the water vice sit in it. A long soak, in my opinion, is about 12-24 hours. Soaking too long can cause Belly Rot, and you dont want that. You have a dish thats just big enough for them to soak in, and only 1/2-1" of water, depending on the size of your snake.

    Just my 2 cents.

Just make sure you don't see little black specs in the water dish, check for mites

also check around the vents closely and the corners of the mouth. This is a favorite place for mites to hang out.

Is the snake actually soaking (putting its whole body in the dish) or just kind of half laying in it?

My snakes will lay part of themselves in the water bowl all the time. in my opinion, it is just them cruising around and stopping every once in a while.

If they are spending hours or days in their water bowl and they don't have mites, and the humidity is good, that can mean they don't like their hides and feel more secure in the water bowl...

Like everyone said check for mites #1 is she shedding #2 also has she been breeding? If it is only for a couple mins a day wouldn't worry too much. For some reason I have a few female balls that will soak in their dish for days even week after ovulation before their prelay shed. Once they shed they stay out of bowl, only time I've ever seen them soak, just a thought.

Re: Why is my BP spending so much time in the water bowl?

It's just weird because it has only been in the last 5 days or so I notice her laying in her water bowl at various intervals totaling around an hour or more a day; never more than 2 hours though, if even that. Maybe she wants to go to the beach? If is summer, really hot around here, I bet she just wants to go hang out in the water at the beach.
