I have a couple of snakes that love to soak also,
but when I see lil black specks in the water, as I see in this water bowl,
then I grab for the magnifying glass and scope them out to see if they are indeed mites..
I've learned that maintenance treating every so often to reduce the chances of getting them

If that's cypress mulch, it could be dust bits from that. None of my snakes have mites, but the one I have on cypress mulch will drag a little dust in his water bowl sometimes.

    Re: Cooling down..

Why does everyone just assume something is wrong if the snake has part of its body hanging in the water bowl?

I don't consider that soaking. Soaking is when they deliberately try to cram their whole body in the water bowl.

Looks to me like that snake just found a comfy spot to hang out!

By the size of water bowl, she or he has as much of it body in the bowl that she or he can,and it looks like its on the cool side.

How does it "look like its on the cool side"? I don't understand how you can tell the temperature of something based on a picture....

She could fit more of her body in there if she wanted to soak mites off.

because of the way the tub is being pulled away from the rack.... that should be a pretty big hint.
