Please help, is this stuck shed on his eye?

    Hi Everyone,

Hope I can get your expert opinions on this... I got him 3 weeks ago, he's eaten twice now, so I'm handling him more (2-3 times a week). That's when I noticed this on his eye. It's just on the front half of his eye, looks like frosted glass. Is it stuck shed? Anything to be worried about?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Re: Please help, is this stuck shed on his eye?

It should come off with the next shed, but if not

    1. soak for 20 minutes in shallow water in a covered container.

    2. wear a latex glove, gently rub your thumb across it's eye, it should come right off.

I'm sure others will chime in with other methods also . hope this helps

Could rub it with a warm, damp cotton swab, but do this very gently. Saline solution from your drug store can also be used to flush out the eye and hopefully loosen up the stuck shed.

I wouldn't bother messing with it. Eyes are very delicate and sometimes you can do more harm then good.

Keep your humidity high for the next shed and it will come off then.

Soak and then use a q-tip

thanks so much for the quick replies! I wasn't sure if he scratched it or whether it was just stuck shed... I'll wait til he sheds and check it again... humidity bumped to 70% by wet towel lol... thanks again everyone

Re: Please help, is this stuck shed on his eye?

Its a stuck eye cap. Every BP will get one at some point. You can soak and try the Q-tip method but if it doesnt come off then leave it alone. Do not pick at it or rub on it with any real pressure. It will not harm the BP. Keep the humidity at least 65 to 70% until the next shed and it should come off. If all else fails simply put a dab of bacitracin ointment or neosporin (both the plain kind with no added painkillers) on the eye once a day until it sheds. Problem solved. Never pick, rub hard or otherwise try to force any stuck shed or eye caps off.
