When do the stop becomming pets, breeding etc..
just wondering, when do they stop becomming pets, lol at moment i have 4 bps, and a couple corns, not counting other reps, I try to hold them when i can, i've notcied my corns are becoming cage, agressive, without me holding them lately, which sparks the above question. i want around, as of now on makret about 13 morphs, the will be my pets, hopefuly, breed once or twice, just to see if i can. With people who breed and sell, are the still pets for you or just breeding purposes. im not sayig you don't like them im just wondering if you get them out and sit around with them and let them crawl. i know people like NERD and BHB, can't do this but small time breeders with like 50 breeder age snakes. yes i know this is scatterd brained, but how many out there that breed and sell, there snakes are still pets.. VS, i love breeding snakes and enjiy it but they are not "pets", just somthing i do

My girlfriend has the same view you do she thinks that even someone with 10 or so snakes does it for the money...
I think that once it becomes to many for you to handle you have become a "Big Breeder" but just because you become a breeder doesn't mean you do it or the money. I currently have 4 snakes and handle all of them allot, but i want to expand and produce the snakes I enjoy, not to sell them or breed the ones worth the most money, but the ones I enjoy looking at. First up are bees...
But back to the subject when I do expand I will always have my snakes I consider pets like my first bp a normal male who will probably never breed, but he started the hobby for me and my female spider my Girlfriends favorite snake. Those are 2 I will never let go off and of coarse one special bee and I will have them as my showcase animals! My "Pets" but I still have the rest simply because I love the hobby!

I dont think they ever stop becoming pets for the people who are truly passionate about them. I like to think of them kinda like fish - you may have lots and not have a whole lot of interaction with them, but that doesnt make them any less of a pet.

Re: When do the stop becomming pets, breeding etc..
I think that the point of when snakes stop being pets is a line that each person has to define for themselves. For me 4-5 is my limit that I can regularly interact with outside of the normal feeding, cleaning, etc...
I like to "know" my animals individual personalities and behavior. For me, any more than that would just become "snakes in a tub"...

Well my snakes are my pets but in a different way then my cats.
My cats I love to hold and cuddle and pet. And my snakes I prefer to watch and sometimes photograph.
Snakes don't like the attention that cats do. So I try to let them be left alone. Not to say I don't hold and handle them once a week if possible but I know that there hearts desire is really for the big nasty hand to leave them alone.
I am sorry if that didn't make any sense my pain pills are kicking in.

Re: When do the stop becomming pets, breeding etc..
They never stop becoming pets. Maybe they're not pets in some peoples definition, but my definition of a pet is : Something I love unconditionally, take care of, provide for, and give attention too.
I check on my ball pythons everyday, and to me that's all the attention they need or want. Sometimes I hold them, normally the babies to get them used to being handled.
I feed them, and love them, so they're still pets. Even the ones I sell, I miss, and still love to hear that they're doing well in another home.
So maybe they're not cats or dogs, but they're most certainly my beloved pets.

Re: When do the stop becomming pets, breeding etc..
They all have names, and I remember which personalities go with those names, so they're still pets at over 40 animals. lol
The geckos are a bit tougher...with some species, I CANNOT TELL THEM APART. It's hard to assign personality and name to something when you can't tell it from the one next to it. The mourning geckos are the worst. I have 3 of them, and they are all clones (parthenogenic species), so of course they look virtually the same, lol.
Definitely more like a school of fish at that point...it's hard to say that an individual animal is a pet in such cases.
