    hiding

i just put aheat pad under my ball pythons tank and inside the tank i put a layer of bark and on top of the bark i layed some moss. well this morning i woke up and my snake was hiding in between the bark and the moss and im wondering if thats okay or is there something i should do about it so its okay for him to be that close to the heat pad. hes not laying directly on the tank floor but im affraid he might try to dig down and maybe burn himself.... thanks guys

If you put your heat pad on a thermostat, you shouldn't have to worry about it burning your snake.

Thermostats are a must just for that reason

The thermostat lets you adjust the temperature so it is 90-92 directly on the hot spot where the snake lays.
Then no worries about being burned

    Re: hiding

Those are ambient temperatures your talking about I'd guess?
I prefer the ambient temperature not get over 88 on the warm end or under 78-80 cool end.
The hot spot directly on the heat pad should be 90-92 for the snake to lay on and digest it's meal.
If you don't have a probed thermometer to know the temperature directly on the heat pad then you need to pick one up, it's pretty much a must have item

    Re: hiding

One of the times I had a baby escape he ended up laying right on the flexwatt, luckily he didn't get burned(My flexwatt used to be set at 100, ONLY because my tubs sat 1/4 inch above the heat tape without touching it). So as long as you have a thermostat then you should be good because BPs like to lay right on heat and they since they can't gauge how much time they can spend on it before hurting themselves, you have to take care of stopping a possible burn before it happens.

    Re: hiding

i went out last night and bought the zilla temperature censor with the automatic on and off switch and set it to about 92, if it gets hotter then that it will automatically turn off. it already seems to be working cuz ive seen it turn on and off. as for my ambient temperature, at night its about 80 on the warm side and during the day its about 90 with the stronger heat bult. which i dont like using the stronger heat bulb cuz it takes away a lot of my humidity away so since i have the heat pad can i just use the night light and have the ambient temperature be about 80 all day long?

Just cuz you have it set to 92* u may want to make sure its getting that hot with a thermomoter probe. I have the same one you do and i have mines set to like 86 but the temps in the tubs are 90-92

Also you do not need the light. All you need is ur heat pad which provides the hotspot of 92* and then a ambient air temp of like 80.

If you have ur ambient temps 90* and a heat pad how is he supposed to thermo regulate?
