    Handling..

okay got a question I got my bp this past Thursday. I haven't handled her yet and the last time she ate was Friday the 23rd. When should I feed her again and when should I handle her? I have heard a week from when I get her to handle and two days of course to let her food be digested which I know is right.

Petsmart told me now is fine because she is only a juvenile.

    Thanks...

    Re: Handling..

I waited the week to let mine settle.....but he didnt start eating until 2 weeks after that. I did offer food on a regular basis. After I got husbandry on track (after some good advice from here), he started taking a hopper F/T once a week and hasnt missed since.

    Re: Handling..

Most people give a week or so before handling. Feel free to offer food after. You are correct to give 24-48 hours after feeding before handling.
On the flip side I've offered food the same day as arrival if it was feeding day and they've eaten fine.

    Re: Handling..

Give 7-10 days before handling it to prevent it from getting stressed out. Also, I feed mine every 5 days. I will start feeding it every 7 days once it hits 500 grams.

Also, make sure you have a thermostat or dimmer hooked up to your heat pad to prevent burns that can potentially kill your snake.

    Here what i have done.

Get the snake in. Wait a week. Offer food at the week mark (or if u have other snakes on their feed day)

Then just wait maybe 2 days before you hold.

This is the exact same thing I do with my snakes, and it has worked fine so far.

I have done the same thing, but with a new snake I always let it get 2 meals in and one BM before I start to handle. Why ?? I dont know its just something I have always done.

P.s.Get your advice from here not someone working at Petsmart or Petco

    Re: Handling..

I fed mine the day after I got her and she ate when I left the f/t in the cage alone with her. Not everyone experiances this result and please never do this with live.

But yes your beliefs about waiting a week is correct.
