Aspen bedding question.
Do you know of any aspen bedding that you can get in bulk that is as fine as the ZooMeds Snake Bedding? It just seem more uniform and overall better than the stuff I have. I have a bag of "SUN SEED" SUNTHING SPECIAL! Its ok, but I like the looks and feel of the ZooMeds better!
thanks for any input,
Dave

Re: Aspen bedding question.
The problem with finely ground aspen is there is a chance the snake could ingest large amounts of it, or have them clog the mouth.
As to the original question, I'm not sure if there is any fine-ground ones. Probably somewhere, check online reptile stores to find one, then search local area for that product name.

Re: Aspen bedding question.
I know it is sold. I believe in feed stores, maybe a Tractor Supply store too. They sell it in 20 pound bags. There is a vendor at our reptile show that sells it there. It comes in chips and shredded.
I don't know the name of the stuff, and I won't be back to the reptile show until June.
Good Luck!

Re: Aspen bedding question.
I've found that Walmart's brand of aspen is similar to Zoomed's stuff, actually.
Just 0.1 normal BP, 1.0 mojave, 0.1 California King, 0.1 Saharan sand boa, ~20 hermit crabs, a Patriot crab, 5.0 rats, and a herd of mice and ASFs

Re: Aspen bedding question.
Tractor Supply Company carries huge bags of shredded aspen, but not the fine shreds. It's really cheap too. I prefer the fine shreds myself.
Sani-chips didn't seem cost effective to me. They are not compressed like the shredded aspen.
I am currently using the ultra carefresh in my ball viv now. I was surprised how little it took to fill the cage. I bought the smallest bag available which was about 7$ and to fill the 10 gal viv I only had to use a ninth of that or so. Have not tried it with my boa yet. She just shed so I'll probably use the rest in her viv and make a final decision if I want to continue using it or not.

I was wondering the same thing. Can you use any type of aspen or is the "snake" aspen all you should really use?

I have used rabbit/gerbil bedding at petsmart. Only like 12 bucks and I use if for my rats and will be using it in the 41 qt tubs much easier than paper towels in those huge things. haha

Thats exactly what i buy for the shreaded. ill buy like 10 bags and the people look at me like im crazy. and its relatively cheap compared to the zoomed from petstores. but i buy the big bags of shaved aspen from tractor supply. i believe its 9 cubic yard of compacted aspen so it comes out to alot more. but i mix the two together. and i also use the shaved for the rats.
