Water monitor regurge :(

Okay so i ahve had my baby water (Monet) for what, 3 weeks maybe a month now and everything has been going great, until this afternoon when i got home from school. As i was checking his cage i noticed the fuzzie i gave him this morning was floating in his water dish, which made me mad at first, thinking stupid mouse ran into the water dish but then i remembered he took it off of tongs for me this morning. So i came to the conclusion he gurged sometime this morning/early afternoon. Ive been logging his temps and everything the last week and here is how his enclosure breaks down.


These are all ambient air temps
"Cold side" is 81-83* the variance is from day night temps in my room itself.
Middle of the cage, which is under no lights is 84-87*
"Hot side" is 90*

The basking spots are as fallows.
He has a 3 level "Retes stack" measure with temp gun

top level, no holes in middle of wood is 128-131*
middle level, hole in direct middle for movement through the stacks 110-114
bottom level, which is subsrate is kept at an even 100* using a heating pad.

Humidity is between 55-70%, i mist the cage one every morning before i go out for the day.

His diet consists of whole rodents fed daily, depending on size 2 a day. And a lean ground turkey/bonemeal/multivitamin mix twice a week. As many super worms, crickets or roaches as i have put in there he has never touched one so at least i wont ever have to worry about him making the switch from bugs to mice/rats?


the only thing i can think of is that the fuzzie was too big? anyone wanna help me weigh in? He was chekced this past weekend for parasites and was completely clean and given a 100% healthy report.

I'm not really sure on that one. Only two things come to mind; the fuzzie was too big for him and he couldn't keep it down, or he's just eaten too much. The other thing is, maybe someone tried to handle him after he had eaten. I dunno just a couple things to ponder over.

He may have taken the fuzzy form the tongs but did he swallow it? He might just be full. Or he may not be. What is the fuzzy to water monitor head size? Need more info even if it doesnt seem important. But dont worry right now, it may be nothing.

No one tried to handle him, my fiance leaves for work before me and comes home after me, so unless someone broke in just to handle my baby water no one was even in my house lol

yes he did. He latched on shook it around good and ate it right down. He is starting to become less shy around me, and eating is one of the few things he will do infront of me without running into his hides first at least. The fuzzy was roughly the size of his head, although it was the largest he has had so far, def nothing where you would look at it and be like holy **** that is waaaaay to big for him!

im going to not feed him for a day maybe two then offer a small fuzzy maybe even borderline large pinky or some turkey mush and see how that goes

...................... Could be a security or parasite issue since your temps seem to be fine. Any full enclosure shots?

P.S. Why the heat pad for the soil?

My guess is someone/something disturbed him while you were at school.

I had a water that, while he was small, had to have the front of the enclosure covered or he would regurg.

Get him out of the "tank" ASAP, and get him a more secure, larger environment. He's gonna outgrow that before you get one built IMO., and his stress levels won't improve as long as he's in there.

Is there any way that my dog barking from the room over could have spooked him enough to gurge?


im already working on building an enclosure for him. its 6 1/2x4 1/2x 4 1/2 the tank he is in is 5x2x2 though, and has 3 sides and the top completely covered

ill get some shots tonight when i get home from work. The heat pad is because i like to keep my room freezing at night/during the day (windows open, cuz im one of those people that is sweating when im in the snow in shorts and a t shirt) and the first time i took temps in the substrate it was in the low 70* so i threw some flexwat under it on a spare thermostat i had under it to keep it nice and warm for when he burrows. He seemed to like it and now i dont have to worry about anything

Yes the dog could have something to do with your monitor to regurg. My dog made my monitor regurg 2 or 3 times. But she became ok with the dog. I would take the dog into the lizards room. They got used to each other and no problems since. It did take some time. This may or may not be the problem for you. Mumps is right something stresed him out. Just watch your monitor and find out what is doing it. Your sav looks to be doing good, good luck. Is your monitor or has he rubbed its nose to much? That would be a problem.
