    Some morphs?

My girlfriends birthday is coming up in about a month. Now for the past couple months, she's been getting really into animals since she spends so much time with me. She LOVES handling my ball python, and everytime I go to Chicago Reptile House and other places around here, I always notice her being really attracted to the corn snakes.

My question is, what are some lower-end morphs of corn snakes? I am most likely going to get her a normal corn snake or one of the lower end morphs to start off with. Also, what are the prices on average for these morphs? I am not looking to spend too much and I would prefer to get it as a baby.

So if you can, go ahead and name off some lower-end morphs and some prices that I can expect to find them for. I am also going to buy her everything she needs for her first setup. What exactly will I need? Is it basically the same housing as a ball python? I have looked at tons of threads and watched many youtube videos but I always come here to get the final answer since we have such educated reptile folks here on this forum.

    Thanks.

I just got my first corn. It's an "amel" (amelanistic) and I think they're pretty common. I bet you'll find a big range of prices depending on where you go. I got my little guy as a baby and he was $20, but that was at an expo.

    Re: Some morphs?

    +1 on what ElSass said.

Amelanistics are without black pigment, leaving behind oranges, pinks, reds, and whites. Amels have been line bred for many years and many generations now to create a WIDE variety of coloration within the "red-pink" spectrum. Some are mostly a deep red, others are as pink as a valentine's day card.

I'm very partial to amel corns, as my first snake was an amel corn.

There are dozens of corn morphs (including combo morphs) you can find for under $50. Because they're so numerous, I'd suggest hitting up a show sometime and being able to see a number of them in person.

Maybe a better idea would be to post what your budget is (w/o shipping) and then we could suggest some morphs based off that. With corns there are a zillion morphs and combos that can be had for less than $100. It's not like bp morphs at all.

    Re: Some morphs?

I got my Opal female and my Lavender male for $20 each at the Expo here last October. I think if you had a show near you, that would be the best place to get one relatively cheap. If you can't get to a show, then my next suggestion would be to find a reputable breeder near you or that can ship to you and go from there.

As far as morphs go, what BAH said is true. There are tons of morphs out there, many of which are becoming common enough that they are affordable for the lower end budget. Good luck with your hunting!

Contact Don Soderberg from South Mountain Reptiles. He lives in Canyon Lake Texas, and is a breeder of top notch corns. His website is:

    Re: Some morphs?

Thank you all for your help.

My budget would be $75 or less for both the snake and shipping/handling.
