    Leo at work

We have a little leopard gecko at work. She was handled incorrectly by a former employee and her back leg was broken. It has since healed but it healed funky. She can walk and catch her food just fine, but because of this injury, along with her losing her tail (grew back) the store cannot sell her. She is up for adoption and they are hoping an employee will take her. I'm thinking about it but I want to get the animal room more organized before I have any spare space for another gecko. Also, my sister is considering taking her.

Now, the lady I was working with today says the gecko has been in the "new arrival room" for a few months. She thinks about 3 months. SHE says they have only been feeding her 2-3 small mealworms a day. This seemed a little off, though I've never had a younger leo before so I'm not sure how much they eat as babies. Her set up is fine, but I took the cup of mealworms in and fed her 5 mealworms and a small cricket before she no longer seemed interested. I'm thinking of taking a scale in tomorrow to get a weight on her.

I took a picture on my phone so as soon as I find my phone I will post the picture of her. I guess I'm just looking for some advice on this gecko while she is in my care at work.

I haven't had a juvenile in a while, but I remember it being more like 5-6 small to medium crickets/day, sometimes more - juvies eat way more than adults relative to their body size because they need to grow.
Mountain bikes are for slow people, and reptiles are far better pets than cats & dogs!

    Re: Leo at work

I tried rescuing another leo a week or so ago, there's a thread about it somewhere. Turns out they just gave her back to the breeder.

Make sure it's getting the calcium supplement. You can keep a dish of mealworms in the cage at all times. Just try and rotate them, I rotate mine every day. I also offer crickets once in the afternoon. Three mealworms a day doesn't sound like enough, unless we're talking a little baby. Does it still have the oblong color patterns/bands or have they turned into spots already?

    Re: Leo at work

She says it was more like 2 a day. I thought that was a little off. Since she ate (I'm not sure if it is male or female.) 5 willingly, I'm going to feed her that amount every time I go in. I'm uploading pictures now from my cell phone. I'm also going to talk with the pet care manager. If it turns out to be one of those "we only feed it to keep it alive" sort of things (which I don't think it is because these people honestly seem to care about the animals. They just seem to be greatly misinformed) I am going to talk to the manager, offering to take the gecko if need be. Then I will adopt it out myself.

I was actually thinking of doing some reptile rescue.

Here he/she is. You can see the back right leg is a little funky. And no that is not sand she is on. It is "sand colored" cage carpet. That was one of the first things I checked when I saw her enclosure.

    Re: Leo at work

Well I am guessing someone adopted her. I'm going to ask the pet care manager where she went but when I went to work yesterday she was gone. I hope she went to a good home with someone who is really going to take care of her.
