Traveling With a BP

Hey there,

I am moving from Vancouver B.C. to Lethbridge Alberta, This will be about a 14 hour drive with a trailor. I am taking my 8 month old bp with me. I wasnt too sure on how to keep him warm and comfortable on the long car ride, my idea was to get a small plastic reptile container -the kinds we used to catch frogs in when we were little =)- and place a few of those instant pocket warmers around the container to keep the heat at appropriate levels. Im not sure if this is the best thing though, i just want to keep him as comfortable and stress-free as possible, does anyone have any other ideas thaat would be more suitable?

What kind of enclosure do you have now?

If you have a tub you may be able to transport it as it is and use a power inverter to power the heating system. Just take the water out for the road trip.

If you don't have a tub that may be an option.

I would consider ensuring his meals are all fully digested before traveling so that any unexpected drops in temperature have less affect on him digesting his food. Whatever you transport him in, it might be nice to place a rumpled up cloth towel so that he can hide in it and if there's any jostling, he doesn't get bumped against the cage walls.

Ya I was thinking of doing that, im just not sure how my crappy car will handle the inverter (my friend who is terrified of snakes is driving the trailor and im taking my car) and to make matters worse, his eyes are starting to go milky now and im leaving on friday! so not only do I have to keep it warm, i have to keep it pretty humid , but i will see how my car handles the inverter, thanks!!!

All you need is a snake bag - Crumble newspaper - Styrofoam cooler - and depending on the whether and or temp in your car a heat pack.

Use those disposable "hand warmers" in the sports section of Walamrt. Some of them last for up to 12 hrs. Buy quite a few just in case. They work great!

For 14 hours, maybe 16 if you take into account stops, I don't think you'd have many issues. The pillow case idea does sound good though, especially if your snake is about to go into shed

Pillowcase is for ease of transport and security for the snake, it has nothing to do with the snake being in shed.

As was stated, a small cooler with newspaper around the snake in the pillowcase and maybe a heat pack is all you will need. Just tie the pillowcase low to keep the snake snug but not restrained.
