    Heat tape for cool side?

I'm not really sure if this is really possible but I have a question. Basically still being young and still living at home, I only have one room to keep my animals in, my bedroom. Now I have been making the sacrafice for them for a while now but I was thinking I might be able to make it easier on me. I was considering using heat tape for the cool side of the cage. Right now I have my room heated up to 80-82 and it is where I sleep. Not the most comfortable sleep but I make do. Anything for my snakes you see. But I got to thinking. Could I just put another piece of heat tape, on a separate herpstat(yes I would get another herpstat for this) and set it to 82 and bring the heater down to a modest 75ish? Or would this affect the ambient temp thus affecting the snake? I wasn't sure if the 82 ambient could be substituted by more belly heat on the opposite side of the cage. If not thats fine, hopefully moving this summer and then I can have a separate room, but this would be even easier still when I do move. I don't mind having the extra cords and heat tape, and it might make it easier for when I up the cage size to 4x2's. Thanks in advance for any input or advice! ~Caylan.S.~

I'm sure that would work, first year I had snakes, I was in a similar situation but it was my sons room, we kept it at 72 and had bely heat under the whole rack and it worked well for my bloods, balls, corns, and boas, son is now in collage so I heat the room to 80 and have moved all to larger rack and only flex watt on one side, what kind of enclosure are you using?

Currently using bins(30qt rubbermaids) but moving everyone up to melamine cages this summer. Hoping to give everyone a 4x2 cage, and the burm an 8x2. Thanks for your response. ~Caylan.S.~

Good deal, you should be fine, the only one that gave a problem was the burm actually, I got him las September so it was still hot out hear and had the swamp cooler working at home to keep temps at 80 in that room, but temp droped suddenly in our town and one night it got to cool in the room so the burm got a bit sick for a wille, I'm building him an 8x2 these summer and will use 2 thermometers and 2 heating units on he's cage to avoid that.

    Inugohan,
There is no reason why this will not work I am going to be doing the same myself soon. I have just bought a Herpstat pro (not a student any more... and am going to be using it on my two enclosures both warm and cool as 'cool' isn't actually cool at all. Good luck!
