Freedom Breeder racks.....

Hi all, I recently picked up some Freedom breeder racks the other day and I'm in love with them however I have everything set up and have been running it for a day prior to move in but I cant seem to get the hot side to heat up to 92-94...the thermostat for some reason won't pass 89....any ideas or has anyone else had this problem?

Yeah, I have had that problem with my cheaper thermostats. If you set it to stay below 95, they will usually turn off at 94 degrees, and then back on at 90 degrees. So typically, they will stay between 90- 93 degrees even though you have it set for 95 degrees.

Good luck, if that doesn't work, then I wouldn't know what else to say honestly. That is just what worked for me. And kudos for setting up before hand.

Also, I forgot to say, if your substrate is moist and cold, or too thick, that will also mess up your reading.

For example, when I change out my eco- earth expandable substrate, I have to wait about 4- 6 hours to get an accurate reading because of the moisture and the dirt being cold because of the moisture.

Run the rack for 5 days or so. It will take some time for everything to equalize.

Thanks for all the comments all. I happened to switch my substrates too cypress, it's a little wetter then I prefer I think I may trash it all and go back to aspen. The temps have leveled off at right around 94-95. I have my fingers crossed and hope it stays that way.
