    He keeps scratching!

Ok so I took my BP out of his tank tonight and noticed something on his nose. I tried to gently rub it off and it wouldnt come off so i tried to figure out what it was. I'm almost 100% sure that it is skin off his nose because it looked a little scratched when I inspected closer. I noticed that at night he keeps rubbing his head on the top screen that covers his tank, how can I stop/prevent this or is there no way to do so. I just dont want him hurting himself because he keeps scratching.

Zip tie a sheet of plexi glass on the inner screen. If you use heat lamps, cut a hole so that the light doesn't melt it. Doing this will reduce any scratching to its nose from the screen as plexi glass is smooth. Or if you think it is just some left over shed stuck on its nose, use a warm wash cloth and try to gently rub it off.

Hope this helps, and good luck.

any other ideas? idk how I would get a hold of plexiglass to put over the screen...he does this every night when he is being active and he just tries to push his way out...

He is probably stressed if he is spending a lot of time trying to push his way out of the enclosure.

What size enclosure is he in? How old is he? What kind of hides does he have?

If there's a Home Depot or any other home goods/warehouse kind of store near you, they should have plexiglass. They should also have plexiglass cutters, which are relatively cheap, if you can't find the right size to fit your snake's screen. If you do take the pelxi route, make sure that when you cut space for anything that you sand down/smooth out the edges so there's nothing for your little guy to get caught on. Sometimes plaxiglass get jagged around the edges when you try to cut it.

Good luck with your little guy. I hope he stops soon, but it might be stress. Make sure all of his temps, humidity and hides are all to the T.

    Re: He keeps scratching!

he is a late 09, I would say he isnt longer than 2ft but close to it and weighs 150g empty. He is in a 10 gallon glass tank with one big waterbowl and one hide on the hot side(I know I should have 1 on the cool side but he never used it and it seemed crowded so i removed it, I'm going to try and put it back). His humidity is usually around 50, give or take 5%. I dont handle him for at least 36 hours after eating and I handle him for about 15mins or until he shows signs of stress like once a day.

I bought mine at Lowes, just to keep the heat and humidity in the tank for both my ball python and my monitors. Although, I know Home Depot carries it as well.
