    Banner ads??

Hello all. I know I am new here but I had a question about my signature. Yes I know I do not have one,...yet. My question is can I put a banner ad in my signature. I run a household pet based website at http://www.journeyofthe animals.com and would love to do more advertising. But I know many animal sites do not allow you to put banner ads in your signature. But I seem to see a few on this site. Mostly for breeders. I figure what is the difference, but wanted to ask first.

If it matters at all I do not currently sell anything on my site. It is just there so people can get proper care information for any household pet.

Thanks in advance for your replies and please feel free to sign up at my site, I really need more traffic on the forums.

    Re: Banner ads??

    Hi,

As long as you are not selling articles or services on the page you link to on your site and avoid advertising language you can certainly put a banner in your signature linking to your site.

"Click here to see our animals" would be fine for example whereas "Click here to see our animals for sale/ petsitting rates" wouldn't be.

You got the link wrong in your previous post by the way.

    http://www.journeyoftheanimals.com/

Seems to work ok if that is your site.

Can one of the mods/admins please clarify this? I see a lot of links in signatures that link to websites that have animals for sale. Is what you are saying is that it is ok to link to a home page, for example, but not the "available" page?

    Re: Banner ads??

    Hi,

Generally yes. But a lot of it has to do with the overall feel and the language used.

If your banner doesn't mention adverts or sales then you could possibly even get away with linking directly to the available page ( though we'd probably prefer you didn't ).

But if your banner or link says "Sale - check these out" or anything similar we would likely ask that you change it even if it linked to the site on a non-sales page.

It's not really an exact science ( for me anyway ) judging whether something is "advertisy" enough that it needs to be changed.

Best idea if you are unsure is to ask any member of staff if they think it would be ok first.
