ok this will be a breeder question
ok I think this will be aquestion for a breeder with the records to check this out but i have a weird/dumb question.(of all the weird things I dream and I get weird questions as I wake up and this one seemde like worth asking lol)
Has anyone one checked to see if there is a time frame were the mother female off spring and or if it roughly the same each year, that she ovlates, and lays eggs.
roughly does the female ovalate about the same time over a couple year period ( say about 2nd half of march example ) and has anyone checked to see if the offspring follow a similar time frame ( if an female kept to breed back to check a morph )
I was wondering as I have 3-4 females that I guessing ovalated and one I either missed or has yet to do so. and it theone I can't tell cause she the het pied.
If there seems to be a pattern to it, it might be worth noting.
I will now go drink my 2literof mountain dew voltage and wake up my brain ( man 6-7 am getting up is a pain when you don't have to do much until like 10 am or so .

Re: ok this will be a breeder question
No.
Last year, all my females went very late, and I didn't get any eggs until the end of May.
This year, I already have 3 clutches down. One from a female who went in June last year.
What seems to be happening is actually more interesting--when other people start posting a lot of pictures of snakes on eggs, I know mine are going soon, too.

Re: ok this will be a breeder question
There are a lot of variables to consider. Females may not back up to weight year after year. The weather can also make a huge difference. It's hard for BG to say because he seems to do something different every year for some reason or another.

Re: ok this will be a breeder question
I have quite a few females that lay eggs the same time year after year...Most have been within a day or so of the year before...I think one female even laid the exact day as the year before.

Re: ok this will be a breeder question
lol I know it was only a halfbaked mental question my mind tossed out this morning. I was wondering in case I could contact the breeder of my het pied female and see when the mother of the clutch had laid the eggs ( month wise ) so I know if she took this year or not. I put the male in and he no longer interested in breeding with her. but like I said she either ovlated and I missed it or she just not going oto go this year( I hoped she would since she an 2007 female and at least (now if the scale still works right ) 1800 grams.

Re: ok this will be a breeder question
This year, my animals are going late. Last year, they went beginning this month up until February....
We shall see. It does depend on several factors, as has already been pointed out.

Re: ok this will be a breeder question
I too believe the weather has alot to do with it. Alot of people use a cooling period. Then simulate a rainy period to get the females to ovulate. Alot do not. I am one who lets nature work on its own. I believe the crazy weather we had this year stimulated the females to ovulate early in the season. The only thing I did was start misting the females about a month after the first locks were noticed. I dont think there is a genetic connection between mother and offspring concerning ovulation and egg laying. One of my females ovulates the exact same time every year. Her eggs were down less than 2 weeks after the date they were down last year. I believe this was because I did not put a male with her right away due to a quaranteen period for that male. Some females will ovulate like clockwork at the same time every year and some will not. The parents have nothing to do with the timing though.

Re: ok this will be a breeder question
ok consider the question answered lol I know it got 90 in DE today and thatwas an easy 20+ temp jump. I came home and found the snake room sitting at 93 degrees and everyone soaking in 90 degree water just about. Dang sun shine in on that side of the trailer in the afternoon and adds a good 4+ degrees. lucky me the t-stats work like they design and all the heat sources were off. I had rats laying on their back soaked as if i dropped them in a bucket of water and they had drank their water bottle dry .. I popped the cage lid open for an hour ans gave them ice water and open the window with a fan to pul lthe extra heat out. I know theheat got to me today trying to cut grass ( as well as my back I begining to think I screwed it up last fall and will need to see the doctor again over it ..( taking vicodine(spelling) not helping now. My luck will be end up in the hospital with back issue,s fall behind cutting grass, and come home to a bunch of eggs that got ruined cause I was stuck looking at some nurse that either married or would seriously run me to the poor house lol. and I still got to try and cut 8-9 lots in the next 2 days...
Man some times I wish I never got into snakes. or took over the grass cutting when my grandfather passed away all cause the dang stupid cerebal pasly
