    The saga continues...

Well today was feeding day and day 25 since Naga's last feed. New snug hides, peace and quiet for 1 week, temp and humidity perfect...

I placed the thawed rat on top of her enclosure for 30 min... nothing

Placed it in a shallow dish of warm water just outside her hidy hole... her nose peeked out

took it out and warmed it just outside her enclosure door with the hair dryer wafting eau de rat her way... her tongue started flicking like mad and she started coming out of her hide... yippy...

I offer the rat on the tongs then the head emerged and.....

... her eyes are completely BLUE!. She flicked at it with her tongue, bumped into it and went back into her hide

Crap another rat wasted and this snake has it in for me LOL now we will wait for her to shed and try again. I left the rat in there anyways but I doubt she will eat it. Sigh One day I will look back on these first days as a snake mommy and laugh.

Well wouldn't you know it! just checked the enclosure (because I'm sooooo impatient) after placing the rat under one of her hides and the darn snake ATE the RAT!!! I'm so glad. and a real bonus for me that she ate the F/T off the ground without having to do a zombie dance or anything.

I know it all sounds so silly to those of you who have been doing this for years, but being new at this it's a celebration.

Although BG really isn't saying that an Asf rat will work for sure, it might, but waiting it out is what's best. BG thinks this thread will be his first "canned response".

LOL I read that BG just before I went to feed her tonight it seriously made me laugh, maybe that is why she ate
I'm sure after all my newbie mistakes Naga wouldn't be as "polite" as the snake in your story LOL I don't care what she thinks I'm still doing a happy dance, till next weeks feeding

    Thumbs up Successful feeding #2!!!

Just want to thank everyone who has replied to my posts about my new snake and her feeding issues. Thanks for your insight, support and most of all for the wrist slapping for all the stupid newbie mistakes I was making, you have saved little Naga a lot of stress!
Tonight she took her second F/T feeding, she is really shy so she wont eat in public but liked the front door delivery or her rat- tartar. She pulled it in her hide and ate it like a lady

    Thanks Guys!!!!
