Male to female ratio

i just built a breedin rack using the mortar tubs. i just want 2 know how many females and the male that i could keep in each tub. i have 2 females in each right now with a male. is it ok to have 3.1 or stay with my 2.1. just dont want over crowding.

First of all, the convention is to list males first, females second. So 1 male, 2 females would be 1.2. Just trying to avoid confusion.

It depends on whether you intend to leave the entire colony together constantly, or rotate the males in & out and/or separate the females into birthing tubs.

I believe some people do as much as 1.4 for breeding purposes, but if you imagine 4 litters of babies growing up in there, you can easily see that would be WAY too crowded. I think 1.2 is more typical for those that leave the colonies together the whole time.

If you are separating the mothers into a nursing rack then you can run more. If you are leaving them together all the time you can run less.

1.2 if you are leaving them together.

1.4 works well in those tubs if you are separating them.

I started using the large mortar tubs and I am running 1.7 in them. I separate the mothers when they are visibly pregnant.

Lol thanks for the help and I just had a little brain fart and I dunno why I put the females first instead of the males. well I am seperating them into birthing tubs. Rite now I have 2 females that are pregnant and 1 justgave birth thismorning. So I think going to keep 3 pregnant females in a tub and 1.2 until they become pregnant And then put them into birthing tubs. Sound good?I have bred small groups but this is my first time using a big breeding group
