Anyone keep mudbugs?

aka crayfish, crawdads, freshwater lobsters, yabbies? I just picked up 3 of them! A snow white (black eyed lucy!), orange, and blue. Here's a pic of the white one:



I believe the white and orange one are Procambarus clarkii (color morphs of the Red swamp crayfish), and the blue one is Cherax quadricarinatus (Australian Redclaw Yabby). They're all going into their own species aquarium, and I might try my hand at breeding them someday.

Those things creep me out so bad. I live in a city that has a nice lake in it where a lot of people go fishing, and I ALWAYS catch these things. They steel my bait so quickly sometimes though. I have no problem holding my tarantula but for some reason I never even attempt to take these things off my hook. I always just swing my line around till they release the hook with their claws lol.

I love em! I found a big one at work a few years ago just walking across the rd. I brought it home and put it in a small aquarium and a couple days later the tank was FULL of babies! Unfortunately most of them ate each other. They are fine to keep housed together as long as they get plenty to eat and they are all the same size. They bicker and fight alot so be sure they all have caves and things to climb on. They are escape artists too. Ive since had a few and you need to be sure there is no gaps in the tank lid. They will swim to the filter and climb right up and out. Those guys love small feeder fish, shrimp, algae wafers. They eat just about anything. They are so cool.
