The best part of owning a snake breeding Business?
The look on my CPA's face when I have to depreciate 8 - 12K dollars of new snake purchases every year on our taxes..
Yes Virginia, people do spend 5000.00 on a snake.. LOL

Haha. Not many people quite understand spending even ten dollars on snake let alone thousands for a high end morph. Its funny to tell people that ive spent a few thousand on all my reptiles. They never understand.

I remember A friend came over to see opera, I mentioned the great deal I got on her. And he said.
"$180 dollars for a snake? You could just go out in the back yard and get one for free."
To Which I replied.
"Really, I had no Idea this was equatorial africa? Silly me."

Haha, thats perfect. Its like telling people i have pet rats. They think i went down to the sewers and set some traps to get them. People dont realize their high intelligence level. And to most people, a snake is a snake is a snake. They dont differentiate species like we do. We look at a burmese python and a afrock next to eachother and see two completely different species, while the average person sees two snakes, and thats it.
There is just too much generalization out there and its our job to help educate people. Whenever i tell people i have snake and they ask "are the poisonous?" or can it kill you or some dumb (to us its dumb) question. I take the opporunity to spread the knowledge i have to them, and hopefully people will come to understand our love for reptiles a little more.

What would Steve O Do. But to each his own .
Education is important, it needs to be interesting to to make them want to learn more. Thats why I think Snakebytes is great. But we all need to share our knowledge about reptiles with others to eliminate this fear.
Another time this weekend my mom came over to see my ball python. She loved her colors and we were chatting While I was taking a few measurements upstairs when this convo happened.
Mom:"What are you doing."
Me: "Measuring for an Anaconda cage, I'd like to get one this fall or next year. I'll probably move opera up here to when I get a new cage cause it's warmer up here."
Mom:"An Anaconda? Those are monsters!"
Me: "No Yellow males rarely get over 9 feet and female max out at 12. Greens do get very large but I'm wanting a yellow. They aren't monster either way they just require more attention and respect."
Mom: "Son just promise me when you get that thing you'll keep a knife on you at all times incase it tries to break your neck"
Me: " I love you mom."
And I continued trying to explain facts to her. Parents are....special people.

Haha, a yellow is next on my list also. Along with many others, but the yellow anacondas are truly unique, and who ever dreamed of having an anaconda? I wanted one, but never wanted such a large snake. But then yellows came along.
The funny thing is, kind of the same thing happened with me when i mentioned an annie to my girlfriend. I told her im thinking about getting a yellow anaconda, which she was by far comfortable with. I explained that males tend to stay small and are not monsters. If i really want one, ill get it. She loves my snakes now, except my SD since hes tagged me a few times. Haha. My family tends to call him evil. But i just tell them the tags were my fault and he is only acting out of instinct.
