FINALLY. I can sleep.
After a month of scratching, gnawing, skittering, and sightings throughout the house, I FINALLY CAUGHT HER! YES!
(I normally never use the banana icon, but this is a special occasion.)
It was actually an ingenious, simple trap. I took an old shoebox and placed a handful of bedding in one corner, along with some bird seed, hamster seed, and a dog treat with peanut butter smeared on it. (How irresistible )
The box had two small pre-cut holes on both ends. I taped one over, and then taped the box closed. I then punched two holes on the top of the box near the end with the OPEN hole, and then threaded and tied a shoestring through it. Once she was inside, I yanked it up and trapped her! Woohoo!

Hahah, that's okay. She actually escaped AGAIN. But, (and I don't know if this sounds cruel/nasty) she had a rather large tumor at the time of her escape, so I don't imagine she will last long anyway.
She had been/is hiding out in our bedroom - that's why I had troubles sleeping. Throughout the whole house, with all its nooks and crannies, she had to choose MY room. Oy vey.
The best you can do when it comes to your missing rodent, is first decide what lengths you will go to when it comes to catching it, and LISTEN. Listen very well for its whereabouts. Look for signs of a nesting place (feces, smell of urine, shredded material, leftover food), or areas that it visits often. If the rodent isn't of much value to you, set up traps and wait. If you want it alive, it'll take some time and work.
