Is it okay tp pull them out of their hiding spot?
I need to treat the snake (Nanook) and cage for mites. She ate on Friday and has been hiding in her house most of the time since. She has them all over her. I got some treatment at PetSmart and was told I need to do this everyday until they are gone. Is it okay to pull her little house off her and go ahead and pick her up?
Also, the man told me he has snakes and to take a paper towel soaked in mite treatment and wipe along her body like she is a tube. I told him she is very head shy and he said I will just have to hold her head whether she likes it or not. Any other suggestions? I'm waiting until my toddler takes a nap so he won't get in the way.

if she ate friday it should be ok to pick her up. u want to get all the mites off her, check all around her eyes mouth heat pits and underneath her head in the fold of skin. i used mite off on a q-tip to hit all those sensitive spots. u should get a can of provent a mite and use that to treat her enclosure. it kills all mites and the eggs.

I agree with mpkeelee, you'll deffinately want to get a can of Prevent A Mite. I tried mite treatment from my local pet store and it was a lot of reapplying and it still did not solve the mite issue. I got a can of pam, which I think there's a link on this site someone to get it from, and I used it once, and the mites were gone. Now every time I change my BPs substrate I use it on the substrate, just put it in a bag, spray it down and shake the bag around. They warn not to get any pam on your reptiles, so I have a seperate set up for them while I'm cleaning their homes.

At first I read like you spray Pam in a sack and put your snake in and shake it around to coat it well, lol.

A very BRIEF spray across the top of the substrate is all you need! Make sure that the PAM is COMPLETELY dry before exposing your reptile to it. Wet, it is very toxic!
Once dry, it kills mites, but not reptiles.
I would be concerned that by shaking up the bedding with PAM, it would not properly dry out.

when i used aspen in a 20gal i would put the aspen in the tank and spray two quick sprays on the aspen and let it sit outside in the sun to dry and air out, then after about 20 minutes i would mix the aspen around and let it sit for another 10-20 min. u do not want ur snake to breath in the fumes or come into contact with the PAM
