DSLR and Lens
Hey,
I want to buy a Canon Eos Xsi just the camera body. I am having trouble finding a lens for it though. 18-200mm (and anything in between) is all good for me.
18-55
18-120
etc...
Do you guys have any suggestions? Only requirement is that the lens is under 600dollars.
Thanks in advance.

Re: DSLR and Lens
Well what kind shooting do you normally do?
Something like the 18-200 would cover a lot of angles, but I often feel limited on my telephoto.
I shoot mainly with a 50mm f2.8, all around good balance and sharpness. I do at times wish I had something a little wider.
Im actually looking into trading for a Sigma 10-20mm...VERY wide.
So yeah, I guess my question is, what do you mainly shoot? Because THAT will detremine the right lens for you.
Hope it helps.

Re: DSLR and Lens
I bought my t1i on ebay. I paid 1100 for one of those packages that includes 3 lenses (35-300mm, 50mm, 18-55mm) , carring case, cleaners, etc.
I agree with the last poster... I mostly use the 50mm lense. Its really general and is perfect for most things.

Haha that is the thing. I just need a general lens as in one that is fairly multi-purpose. I think a 200mm zoom is really on the large side (Largest I would preferably take is around 125mm).
I just need one that I can carry with me, can take nature photos, pictures of people, architecture pics etc...
Just multi-purpose.

Re: DSLR and Lens
I think the kit lens the XSi comes with is a 18-55.
That is not MUCH reach, but maybe enough for you?

Re: DSLR and Lens
Yea I know the kit lens is a 18-55 but generally they aren't the best so I figured I would skip the kit lens and get something a bit better.

I have a Nikon 18-55mm lens that works great. If you just want an all around shooting lens than the kit lens should be just fine. I use my 50mm f1/4 more than anything though. It pretty much stays on my camera all the time.

Re: DSLR and Lens
I've got a 17-85 f/4-5.6 (around $450) for walking around, and then a 50mm f/1.4 (around $350) prime because photoshop bokeh just isn't the same...
I prefer heavy, single purpose glass though - which means long glass should be long, and not attempt general purpose coverage of the wide end of the spectrum.
