What to get retic? or no retic? lol
I want a retic.. But a normal one would get way too big for me.. as of right now.. i just don't have the room or the exp in my opinion.. so i would have to wait a few years at least before i would feel good with getting one...
my other choices are a dwarf or a super dwarf.. i think those 2 are 2 diff sizes ???? if im wrong let me know lol...
How big does the super dwarf get and how big does the dwarf get????
would one of those be a good choice for somebody who wants a retic.. But can't due to space and prolly shouldn't do to having no exp with big snakes...
thanks!

I answered your question in my SD kisses thread.
Here are some more pics of the female right after I got her. You can see the difference in head shape and more of her green and grey color. Her eyes looked bad in these due to retained caps but the next shed was great and they came off easily.

Super dwarfs basically are referred to just one locality, though I forgot which one, and generally only reach 5'-7'
The other dwarfs depends on the locality. Jampeas are capable of reaching 15'+. Kayuadi island dwarfs I think can get up to 10', so I hear. Selayars get over 10', I'm pretty sure.
I'd probably go with something like a male jampea, if I were you.

If the SD only get 5'-7' ft then thats even better. I was under the impression they could hit 8 ft. Then that would explain why my 4 yr old female is still under 6 ft and the 5/6 yr old male is barely at 6 ft. Cool. Not my thread but thanks anyway

I think you need to do a lotttt more research.
The Dwarfs are smaller but some morphs can be mean. and Nasty

I agree, if the OP is worried about size, then the SD would be the way to go.

Andrew24.. To give you an idea of how retics are.. They are pretty smart. They seem to have an intelligence that alot of other snakes dont show. They have a great memory. Most will get used to their owner and have been known to show agression or be uneasy with strangers. They hold grudges if they are traumatised in your care. For instance. My female was the sweetest snake alive. When I first got her she had retained eye caps. She would hold perfectly still for me to put bacitracin on her eyes until she shed again. She would come out calmly and just crawl right into my hands. One day my son ran in the room when I opened her enclosure. She got very spooked and jerked her head around for a few seconds before biting me. It took quite a few weeks of using a hook to get her out and gently handling her to get her calmed again. She didnt trust me for awhile.
The male was originally an import. He has been in capitivity for 4 years. When I first handled him he was extremely flighty. Trying to get away and musking (peeing). Im still in the process of calming him down and earning his trust but when I take him out if I sit very still and gently keep running my hands under him and bringing him back to me slowly, he calms down. After a few minutes he is almost as calm as the female and will begin to just slowly explore without trying to get away.
If you ever do get a retic, regardless of size, get it young and handle it regularly. Older ones may need more work. You do not want a snake that you will ever be afraid of. You may want to find someone near you who has retics and ask if you can have some experience handling them. You need to be calm, confident and gentle. Otherwise these guys can tell and they react to that.
Just keep doing research and asking questions. Be sure you know as much as you can and you are prepared for everything before getting a snake like a retic.

I wouldn't say mean. And the only one I can think of which pretty much all have the same characteristics is the genetic stripe. Pretty much every one I've held, and my friends for that matter, is very flighty. Not biting, just always on the go. Don't sit still. Some people think all dwarfs are like that, and some people consider genetic stripes to be dwarfs.

Thats amazing that retic python has a higher level of intelligence. What other snakes do u think have higher intelligence that other snakes? What do u rate a BP's intelligence?
