Incubator materials

Hey all, I'm looking to build a cabinet type incubator. But I am having a hard time deciding what material I should use (plywood, melamine?). If anyone has any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. And also if fans are added to circulate the air do they need to be running all the time or do u put it on a timer?

A mini fridge worked great for only a few clutches, larger coolers work sweet for more clutches.
Cheap, efficient, and works AWESOME!.

I would look for a old soda cooler or a wine cooler. Even an old fridge will do.

Insulation is the key to keeping temps stable. That is why an old fridge works so well. Nice seal on the door too.

I'd go with plywood, and it doesn't have to be very thick--you're going to line it with heavy insulation foam board, right?

I'm experimenting with making one out of just foam board, with 2X3s for a frame.

I was thinking plywood and yes I will be also adding insulation foam too. I was wondering if the plywood would warp? Anyway any ideas of the fans, should it be on all the time or set with the thermostat so it only goes on with the heat tape.

Something like this? I used 2x2's for the frame, so the 2" insulation would fit flush inside the frame. It works pretty good.


As to the fans, you want them on all the time. If you plug them into the thermostat, not only will you likely burn them out pretty quickly, but they won't be circulating the air to keep an even temperature inside.
