    Arrow Substrate Q?

Whats everyones opinion on aspen, cypress, or eco earth/coconut fiber (for bp substrate).

Is there one thats better than the other or is it simply just personal preference?

    Re: Substrate Q?

I use shredded aspen for my baby ball pythons, and everyone else has either paper towels or newspaper. The aspen really helps keep in humidity, expecially if the snake is in shed i'll put his water dish over the heat and it helps a lot. A lot of people prefer different things, but I recommend the shredded aspen or coco fiber for sure.

Big Gunns likes Aspen for babies, and then he switches to Cypress.

    Re: Substrate Q?

im on the papertowel team. I use to use Eco....hated the fact that when they struck and missed...I was picking substrate out of the mouth of an angry snake. With the papertowel....I can tell the instant someone has a urate or a poo and I can change it immed. So I feel that it is much cleaner for them and I can keep track of everything they do.

    Re: Substrate Q?

I use newspaper in my rack and cypress mulch for my display case. STAY AWAY FROM COCONUT. I cant say this enough. It can and will get in between the snakes scales and cause issues.

    Re: Substrate Q?

Aspen works for me. It at least gives me a couple of spot checks before I have to completely re-do the tub. I have tried paper towel / news paper and that would be my second choice. The thing with the paper is there is no "spot check". It's all or nothing.

    Re: Substrate Q?

Paper towels for all my snakes.
But, if I wasn't home alot or home full time like me then I'd use aspen full time for it's ease of spot cleaning.
