    How long till ov

What's the best if any way to tell how long it'll be till ovulation? I've got a couple females that have been locking with their males alot over the past month and their follicles are getting bigger by the week. I'd say they are the size of big marbles ( the smasher or whatever they're called ).

Anyway if there's a way to tell that would be nice, but I've also heard that you can only sit and wait.

    Thanks
    Dustin

Without a crystal ball or a magic eight ball its up in the air.

Truly nobody knows. I have a female that had been pairing since last July and she just Ovulated this morning. Its simply a waiting game.

    Thanks. Kinda figured that, but...

It's kind of nerve racking though for somebody that's pretty new to all this.

An ultrasound won't tell you when she will ovulate. You can get an idea of her progression but not a definitive date. Correct me if I'm wrong, but even with an ultrasound there is still no for sure ovulation or outcome ( ie slugs or reabsorbtion). You may know based upon the size of the follicle how close she is, but can't pinpoint.

    Re: How long till ov

Thats the million $ question isn't it!

I have several females that when given a large water bowl will soak on and off for up to three weeks approaching ovulation. If I see them glowing, soaking(when not in shed) and go off feed I keep a watch and it has helped me know when ovulation is approaching but not an exact date. Then again I have some girls that lock with males routinely and still go years without ovulating. So I say look for the glow and then just keep checking routinely.

All 8 of my breeding females even the girls with small or no noticable follicles ( 6 of them ) have been off feed since the first males were introduced. I offer food weekly to them, but no go. The only girls that I've got eating are 1200 grams or less.
I've even tried offering rats, mice, and asf's in the 40 gram range for a smaller meal option.
    Is that typical?

It varies from girl to girl but many will go off feed as they get further into their breeding cycle.

Watch for the glow, which is a lightening up of their overall color and exaggerated head and back blushing. That combined with fasting is a good sign ovulation may be near.
