Temp/thermoregulation question

Hi, I was just wondering something - I checked my temps this morning and the accurrite had one reading and then got a totally different reading on my temp gun - my question is, wouldn't my boa leave the warm side if it was too warm for him??? He has a really good thermal gradient in his cage - plenty of room.

I may have to move my probe that runs my RHP - I'm not liking the discrepancy between the accurrite guage and the temp gun.

I am using an RBI plastic 4'x2'x12" cage with an RHP but I currently have the probe hanging downt he back wall - should I move the probe so that it is on the floor directly under the Rhp??

My main concern was - if it indeed got warmer than anticipated on the warm side - wouldn't he move if he was uncomfortable.

What are the temps your getting?

sorry for the delay in responding but I didn't see this post til today - my temps are usually 91 hot side and 81 cool side but on that particular day I checked with my temp gun and in certain spots it was registering really high like 96 so I reset my thermostat and adjusted the probe thinging - all is good now though.

In most cases, they would move if they were too hot, but they would only do so if
1. They could find their desired temperature somewhere else. ie. If they have to choose between too hot and too cold they might choose too hot.
2. If they feel secure enough ie. if there is a hide over the hot spot but not over where the temperature they want to be, they might pick the hide!

My boa is kept in a 4' cage with a cool side hide and a hot side hide so my hope is that he can move to whereever he is most comfortable.

You definitely want your probe directly over your heat source.
