Herp/Animal data tracking application - Call for Suggestions
Hello fellow herp enthusiasts. This may be the wrong forum to post this in and I trust a moderator will move it if it is, but I am a software engineer and I am building a free web application for keeping track of animal husbandry (being a ball python guy it has an emphasis on herps).
The idea is that its a central online database of all your animals and stats for those animals like feedings, size, weight, etc. This way there is a central, backed up, place for your data to live and be viewed. I envision a site with graphing of weight or length over time and accepted vs rejected feeds and things like that.
My question to all you in the community, being that I only have one animal to keep track of, is what would you like to see in such an application. This is your chance to shape such an application. I'm not doing it for profit or anything, just as a service to my fellow herp/animal enthusiasts so I want to make sure its something that is useful on a day to day basis. Heck, maybe it can integrate with your BP.net experience if the BP.net ppl are up for something like that?
Just give me your thoughts and suggestions on the subject. If you think its stupid let me know that too.
Thanks in advance to everyone.

Right now I use Iherp. If you haven't seen it yet check it out.

I use Degei for my tracking, and iHerp for a bit of showing off, and for its lineage database, which is invaluable in my opinion.
So sorry to tell you that your idea's already been done, lol. If you want to make a site like the one you're suggesting truly useful, focus on enabling it to read the backup files of the most popular offline herp tracking databases. If I could upload a file and all of my Degei data would be on the web, I would definitely pay attention to that.

I use Degei as well and it has worked for me....but I only have 5. I have to say I love the note aspect in the software. I personally would love to be able to keep track of exercise time as well. But that is just me and typically breeders I don't think would be interested in that.
I also like that I can run reports for the snakes as well and if I ever do breed and sell I can print out these reports for the buyer. Again this is coming from someone that has never bred and is just an enthusiast.

Keep it Simple. I have tried to use all the programs out there and it is way too much work. Plus only being able to see one snake at a time is aggravating. The best program is Free Herp. It isn't around anymore but you can find a link to download it by doing a search on the forums.
