at what grams do you consider W-S-M-L

hey, just curious, at how many grams do you consider your rats to be weaned, small, medium and large? i see that there are a lot of differences in grams between some websites. i'm just trying to learn since i'll start my own breeding pretty soon. thanx

It often depends on who you talk to or what store is selling feeders.

    Pups 2 weeks old

    Weaners 3 weeks old

When I talk about small rats they are 4 weeks old rats 55/85 grams

And for medium 5/6 weeks old rats, 85 grams and over (I never feed anything older than that , females get 5/6 weeks old rats males 4 weeks old rats)

That's how I go with my colony now I can go to a pet store and it might be something different.

Yep sizes vary from store to store and sometimes even week to week within a store. For several weeks I was buying small rats that were about 90g. Paid small rat price for them too. I got a medium that was about 200g! Now all of the sudden smalls are around 50g and mediums are not much bigger. Maybe a tad over 100g.

I've always judged by which of my snakes can eat it. If it's the girth of my big female bp's then it's a medium, girth of my 300+ gram bp's qualifies as small, and if my retic licks his lips it's a retired breeder.
