I would suggest going to one of the reptile shows. Hamburg Pa has a show tomorrow. It wouldn't be that far of a drive. It's a great show with lots of great vendors. Since this is your first BP, you will have a much larger selection than any pet store and you will be talking to qualified individuals to answer any of your questions. This is of great value. You won't be getting answers from a questionable "expert".

    Good Luck!

Hey guys my name is David and im in NYC.
Did you move out of NYC in the past 5 days or are you just basically gonna acquire a BP even though you are aware of he fact that they are ILLEGAL where you live (NYC), did you mention that little detail to your parents also?

    http://www.nycacc.org/nychealthcode.htm

Yes I know it's hard I have the same problem where I live.

Have you thought of what would happen if you had to take your BP to a vet?

Or would you just not take it to avoid being reported and your animal being seized?

Here we try to encourage responsible pet ownership and owning animals that are illegal to own where you live is not really what I call responsible pet ownership.

    NYC Health Code :
    § 161.01. Wild animals prohibited. [FN1]
    (10) Reptiles (Reptilia). All Helodermatidae (gila monster and Mexican beaded lizard); all front-fanged venomous snakes, even if devenomized, including, but not limited to, all Viperidae (viper, pit viper), all Elapidae (cobra, mamba, krait, coral snake), all Atractaspididae (African burrowing asp), all Hydrophiidae (sea snake), all Laticaudidae (sea krait); all venomous, mid-or rear-fanged, Duvernoy-glanded members of the family Colubridae, even if devenomized; any member, or hybrid offspring of the family Boidae, including, but not limited to, the common or green anaconda and yellow anaconda; any member of the family Pythonidae, including but not limited to the African rock python, Indian or Burmese python, Amethystine or scrub python; any member of the family Varanidae, including the white throated monitor, Bosc's or African savannah monitor, Komodo monitor or dragon, Nile monitor, crocodile monitor, water monitor, Bornean earless monitor; any member of the family Iguanidae, including the green or common iguana; any member of the family teiidae, including, but not limited to the golden, common, or black and white tegu; all members of the family Chelydridae, including snapping turtle and alligator snapping turtle; and all members of the order Crocodylia, including, but not limited to alligator, caiman and crocodile.
    (d) An animal whose possession is prohibited pursuant to this section may be seized by any authorized employee, officer or agent of the Department or of any other agency of the City of New York, and the Commissioner shall provide for such animal's appropriate disposition.

It will depend on where in NY you are. If you are in the city limits or the five boroughs they are illegal and you will have a hard time finding a breeder there. Hamburg is a good show to check out if you want to take the drive, but they might be checking I.D. for purchases.

LOL I was literally 1 minute late on my post. Good point, however if you do possess an illegal reptile, I know a great exotic vet on Staten Island who does house calls for a very reasonable price.

Yes i have already found vets who are willing to see ball pythons in long island.

And most of my neighbors own "illigel" animals too like green iguanas and such so i should not have any problems.

That may be so - but you will not be allowed to discuss owning a ball python illegally here on this forum, nor solicit help in obtaining said illegal ball python through this forum.

Tough love, but loved none the less. I know forums where he would have been banned immediately.

    True that.

They can't stop you from doing the illegal behavior, but we all strongly discourage it because it hurts our hobby as a whole.
Plus you wouldn't be able to talk about it here at all anyway. It is a liability.
