Well if you mix a witch with a sable I guess you get a very sweet looking witch with creamy colors, a black hat and a nice wet / dry vac.

    I think you meant which.

    Re: Witch sable combis

    Sable Pinstripe
    Pastel Sable
    Sable Mojave
    Super Sable
    Sable Spider (does not live)
Sable Mojave Spider (again it does not live with the Spider gene involved)
    Sable Yellow Belly
    Sable Pastel Yellow Belly

I know that Jon Courtney is working with
    Sable Het Hypo
    Sable Het Axanthic

There may be more, but those are what I am aware of thus far.

I didn't know about this, that's very interesting I wonder why they don't live? Do they hatch and then die young or do they not hatch at all?

Have there been a lot of these crosses done? Or was it determined that they don't live after just a few tries?

The one I produced this year never made it out of the egg. The ones Sean produced this year never made it out of the eggs. The first guy to produce them had 2 hatch, but they didn't live a week. Also, from what I have heard, Kevin (NERD) has produced a few and they didn't live either. Kevin has a pic of one on his site somewhere (I don't remember where), and he called it something I can't remember. However, I know of at least 7 that have never lived past a week. I only tried it this year, because I hadn't been able to confirm that, and I wanted to experience it for myself for personel reasons.

    Hope that helps Mark,

Thanks for the info! Do you know if chocolate has the same problem combined with chocolate? I've heard that chocolate and sable MIGHT be alleles.

    Randy,
Although I feel they are very similar, as you do, Brian has produced Chocolate Spiders and Chocolate Spinners, and they live. Therefore, it will be interesting to see what happens with the Sable gene as we produce more with it. I think one of the things that will help us learn a bit more is when the Super Sable Pinstripe is produced. I expect it will look very similar to the Camo ball, but that remains to be seen. As of now, I know that I have a Sable Pin girl, and Sean has a Sable Pin boy. So, one of us should be able to hit on it in the next 2 years.

Lastly, I have been debating getting a Chocolate from Brian to test compatibility with the Sable gene. As of now, I currently have no Chocolate stock.
