    hides....

*hey yall*(in my cleaveland voice)...I'm new but I've been lurkin for the last couple of days.(great info) but I have a couple of questions... jus adopted my friends 8 year old beautiful female normal bp...he dint want her nemore and I wanted her the 1st time I saw her,so 50 bucks got me everything he had...but get this all those years he dint give her a hide...so I bought a half log way to small...now I'm in the middle of buildin her a hide box to replace the s***** cardboard 1 now...its gunna be 10x8x4,should I include a bottom peice of wood to the box or should I have no bottom so she can feel the aspen?(main heat source is uth setup, werks nice)...second question...I live in cold minneapols, and the air this time of the year is cold and dry...so I have humidity problems...I currently use a 9 inch bowl for water and mist with warm water at 10am and 10 pm and towel the screen but that only last 2 hours tops...I heard that I could get another plasic hide and place damp moss inside, but she's a huge snake and I can't find nething big enuff to acomadate her,any ideas....and thirdly when I got it the name was patrick(masculine) so I assumed boy...but when I popped her I saw nothing that would get ne other snake pregnat...so I'm asking for new female or nutral names...

    Re: hides....

For hides mine dont have any bottoms, just sit them right on the aspen. And as for misting I only mist when they are getting ready to shed, and then I mist 2-3 times per day. If it really dry you could probably mist more often or use something to raise humidity, HOWEVER you need to be careful and not make things too moist or your BP can end up with scale rot, not something that is desireable!!!!

When you spray do not soak everything, just a fine mist is good

    Hey there,
Well I'm from New Jersey, not that it matters, but I'll lend a little help. I'm real new to this site, but I have owned my share or ball pythons. For the hide, you should make it a tight, but comfortable fit, they like to feel secure in small tight spots. As well, you should leave the bottom piece off of the hide so that the snake can still get the heat from the heat mat, and if possible, put one on the cool side too. As for humidity, you could get a cat litter box, and use that as a water dish, if that does not keep the humidity boosted, you could buy an automatic mister, they have time settings, so that you could set it for every two hours, and so on.

As for names, I don't usually give suggestions on that, but some that I like are:

    Kade/Kayden
    Ayden
    Ember
    Roz
    Jade/Jaden
    Kendall
    Sage
    Skylar
    Rory
Reese (Reminds me of peanut butter cups)
    Blaze
    Jericho

That's just to name a few... I could go on all night. Hope this helps some.

I use the reptile basics hides. I used the small size when my BP was 300g, I have been using the medium size up until now -- he is about 1200g now. The medium is getting pretty snug, and I just ordered the large yesterday.

The wood hidebox sounds cool, but I would be concerned about being able to clean and disinfect it good after she defecates in it a couple of times.

TO THE OP: How the heck did you pop an eight year old female. I've been told that only the pros can manage to pop one that is that old and strong.

I watched the popping videos when I first got my bp, and I was too chicken to try when he was that young.

    Later,

    George

    Re: hides....

reptile basic hides are nice except for the fact that 2 hides cost like 10 and shipping is 10 hate when shipping is as much as the item lol

    2 Items: $8.78
    Shipping cost: $8.32

    Total: $17.10
