    Boas and Radient Heat Panels

I am considering either Boa Master or Reptile Basics enclosures. I'm also leaning towards the RHP for heating. I've spent most of the morning going through threads, which mostly end up in debates over belly heat vs. back heat. All I really want to know is 1) Does anyone use the RHP's in their enclosures, and 2) Have you had any type of adverse issues to deal with as far as digestive problems, regurges, etc... and 3) How do they hook into the thermostat? Is there a place to attach the probe or do you just aluminum tape it to the face? I appreciate anyone who can answer some of these...

Re: Boas and Radient Heat Panels

I use RHPs for my four foot boa cages, and really like them. I have three reptile basics cages. Two of them are the newer style that has the recessed probe slot on the bottom of the cages. The other does not. I taped the probe to the inside bottom of the cage that does not have the recessed slot using foil tape. They are all working fine. The reason that I chose to install RHPs is because I moved the cages from a heated room to a non-heated room. The temp dropped considerably on the cool sides, and the RHP heats both the hot spot and the ambient temp throughout the enclosures. BTW, my RHPs are from Reptile Basics, and recommend them.

No problem. Glad I was able to help. If your room is cool, I highly recommend them.

Re: Boas and Radient Heat Panels

I use both belly heat on some of our older cages and RHP in the vision cages. I just let the probe hang on the hot side near the bottom Theres not enough slack to cause any problems. All the heat pannels are hooked up to one thermostat in each stack. The RHP seam to keep the cages warmer than the belly heat.

I also have three of the Reptile Basic cages all with 80 Watt RHP and I just love them. I hang the probe down the back wall about 3/4 the way down and secure it there - its been like this for two years and no problems. As far as hooking them up to your thermostat - I use the Helix and it is a simple as plugging them into each other.

Good luck with your new cage.

I bought little brackets at Home Depot that hold the probes rigidly in place against the wall on the hot side near the bottom. They are in place just like a thermocouple in a water heater.

good idea. I think any kind of tape, is not such a good idea.

FWIW I recommend Pro Products heat panels over the Reptile Basics ones.

I didnt like RHP's at all anyways, but if I were to use them again, I'd buy the Pro Products ones again.

Nothing against Rich, I just liked the other ones better.

Can you give me a rough estimate of what they cost? On Pro-Products website they don't have any prices listed, as they want you to call them with the tank details. I would just like to have a rough estimate. And thanks for all the replies..
