    First feed. Went well.

So we decided to pick up a little mouse today for him to eat. Bring it home throw it in the tank. Soon as it hits the aspen the snakes head is out his hide like YUM! He spots the mouse on the other side. Mouse runs around the hide right into the snake. Boom hits it. Mouse was in there no longer then 30 sec's tops. Well when he had it seemed like he struggled a bit to kill it. Wasn't all that quick.

When he constricted it it kinda ran his feet along his body not to much tho. Well what i was worried about was his mouth.. The entire time he has him rapped up the mouse was opening his mouth and closing it and stuff. Almost trying to bite him. The mouses head was to high up couldn't bend it down to bite so all went well.

Question is how long should it take him to kill it once he hits it? Took the little guy around like 30 secs - a min

Once he got it almost down i went and ran to store. Well when i got back i opened the tub lid to make sure he finished it well. Well soon as i opened it he stuck his head out the same exact way he did before he hit the mouse. What would that mean? Im sure the little guy cant be hungry lol the mouse was a nice size for him.

Edit* Ment to put this under general bp now BP Husbandry sorry

My pastel (who strikes horribly) has taken a min or two to kill a rat before. I've seen somewhere that after 10-20 secs of being constricted they lose conscious. I'm not a huge believer in that, just what I read somewhere.

Well he struck good. Just took longer to constrict Hes still kinda small dont think hes all that powerful

But the mouse was moving for like 30-45 secs trying to get free/breath/bite him lol

Iv seen some where like u said 10-20 secs their out.

Question. Every time i stick my hand in there he pokes his head out looking for food. Like he did with the mouse. Then he spotted it and went after it. Could he still be hungry?

I was changing the water bowl stuck my hand in he seen it and came out the hide didn't keep my hand in there to long. Took it out soon as i seen him stare at it like he did his food

How often do you feed the snake?? Little guy like that can eat every 5 days if you want.
Sometime the prey will last awhile once its constricted. My friend has a 8 or 9 ft red tail and I have seen rabbits last for over a minute while being constricted. She is around 40lbs I'd say and she is strong.
That is a rabbit tho not a mouse.

Well the breeder fed him every sunday night / monday morning so when i got him it was a sat. So he went 3-4 days extra without eating.

When ever i open up the cage he sticks his head out looking around. I always thought bp's were more hiders so if u open it then would continue to hide not come out and raise their head up and look at you lol

Here is right after i open the tub. If i reach in he comes out more lol

Dude, leave him be. He is just wondering who is messing with his house!

He probably notices that the tub is open and wants to get out. Its just a normal new snake behavior. Don't worry about it.

Like I said before, please relax!
