Traveling with a BP
Im going to a friends house tonight about a half hour from my house. She has never seen my snake before and wants to. I was wondering how long of a drive you can take a BP. I dont want to stress it out too much. I can put him in a tub with a hide and substrate to make him more comfortable. But I was just wondering if it was ok to take them places as long as you make it as comfortable as possible for them. Since her and her roommate cant come to my house. Any help is greatly appreciated.
If it will cause too much stress I wont take him at all but I was just wondering what the right thing was to do.

Re: Traveling with a BP
Either place the snake in a snake bag or pillow case, and then place the bagged snake in a tub, this is how I do it.

Re: Traveling with a BP
I would not do it regularly, but for a 1 time thing, it should be ok.
Here is what I did when I had to take 2 snakes the the vet recently. I put each one in a separate snake bag/pillowcase. I put them inside an insulated box, and filled the remaining space with crumpled newspaper. I used handwarmer type heat packs to keep the box warm, and brought my accurite with me, with the probe in the box, to keep an eye on the temps, since I didn't know how well the hardwarmers would work. I had 2 of the hardwarmers tucked down inside socks (to make sure they would not be in direct contact with the snakes through the thin fabric of the snake bags) in the corners in the bottom of the box, and 2 more taped the the lid (it was a fairly big box, and the hardwarmers were tiny). As it turned out, that was pretty good, but a little too much heat, so I'm glad I had the accurite to keep an eye on it. I just opened the box to let some heat escape every once in a while, and it worked pretty well.
I was probably a little over obsessive with getting the heat just right, since the reason I was taking them to the vet was for an RI caused by the flexwatt failing and them getting chilled, but it never hurts to be sure.

I put my guys in a pillow case, and then into a box, or, if it's a longer drive, a cooler with some towels I put in the dryer to make a little warm. I measure temps with a little thermometer and bring along a few heat packs in case it gets too cold. All of my guys travel every once in a while to visit some school kids and they don't seem to mind too much. Good luck
