things to do while waiting for bp eggs lol

so i found myself messing around with genetics of rats to make the time go by faster during breeding season for bps. here are some things i have right now that i figured out how to make.
i used a dark rex rat and bred it to this white girl with black eyes, almost all the babbies look exact and one has one black eye and one red eye like their auntie rat.


i bred another rex rat to a female rex and made a few patch work hairless rats, it took about 5 weeks for this one to start loosing its hair

just by adding a few solid white female rats (some albino) to my breeding colony i managed to produce all kinds of things and it def makes the days till hatching ball python eggs a little less harsh.

lol yeah now that i just stared breeding my rats. i know ima be taking the ones i like and trying to breed them together. thats awesome though. i have three albino females, one is nursing a litter and the the other two are preggos. i want a white rat with black eyes!

Having a rodent colony is DEFINITELY the way to keep yourself amused while waiting for the BPs to get big enough to breed, or to breed, or lay the eggs, or for the eggs to hatch! I have all kinds of fun with my mouse colony, and all the colors I can get out of it now.

Of course, it is dangerous, too. I now find myself wanting to try to find some show mice breeders so I can get some of the really fancy colors. LOL.

Your babies with the spotted heads are really adorable. Are you aware of the risks of megacolon when working with such high white rats? I don't know much about it, but I know some people prefer to avoid that kind of marking just to avoid the issue, but I believe others have had success establishing high white lines that are free of megacolon.

yea actually i think i had one rat that had it a while back, i fed it off. i hear alot of different things about megacolon and some say high whites, some say it has to have a certian blaze.... what i do know is i have about 20 breeder females that all have litters right now and are doing fine. i have tried to find more info on it but there is not much out there that i could find.... reminds me of the caramel albino and its "kinking"

Very beautiful rats you have there! I am just starting out. I have four baby girls and two baby boys that will be the start of my feeder breeders. Can't wait to see what I get.

I used to breed hedgehogs and that was only a 35 day gestation and kept me busy. Waiting for the whole snake breeding/ egg laying/ egg hatching is a killer, so I'm hoping the rats will keep me entertained while trying to be patient!

Siamese comes from the recessive C Locus gene. The C Locus gene darkens the hair in colder areas of the body like ears, feet, base of tail and nose.
So the goal with a Siamese is to make a smooth gradient, in order to do so they must be selfs. Siamese are black with the C Locus gene, so when you need to maybe branch out for better traits only do so with black selfs. Do not use agouti rats, it is not flattering and pretty gross looking.

In order to make Himalayan rats you need to have an Albino mate with a Siamese.

the pic of her isnt that great but she def looks siamese. do u breed these rats? and u said het to het.... its a recessive trait?
