Exclamation Ball pythons fade away ?

Right im new so please be gentle but i worried that ball pythons will be the new craze and that maybe other species will take over ball pythons.

Corn snakes used to be big and lots of people had then BUT then now not many are breeding and buying corns ??

Maybe ball pythons will become like that ?

With the prices dropping all the time will there be a point where normal males ( maybe females ) are not valuable.

    Or just wont sell.

what do you think ? this is not to start an argument just a friendly discussion

No you still see tons of people breeding and buying corns or just plain colubrids for that matter. Its all objective as to where your looking. The expos out here are all a decent mix but the san diego show tends to have more boas, anaheim more balls, pomona more of an even mix. I don't think that balls will be going anywhere anytime soon.

Re: Ball pythons fade away ?

I'm not a breeder, so my livelihood doesn't depend on it, so I guess for the most part I don't really care (not being rude, just stating my opinion).

I like BP's, and all I have is a normal -- would like something else, but didn't have the money for a more expensive one at the time, and I only really have room for one -- I don't want to get rid of him to get a "fancy" one, because he has been darn near perfect -- ie shedding, eating, etc.

Anyway, it doesn't matter to me if thousands keep them, or 10 people. I am happy with him as a pet, and it doesn't really matter to me if it is "cool" or "trendy" to keep them.

    Later,

    George

I plan on breeding about 50 adults. now thats no alot and its going to take me a while to build that but its my goal.

Id like to sell the babies for around the prices i paid for them. i dont want to breed and then sell for nothing as whatever i make will be going into racks and more ball pythons

i will never take money put of what i make for eny other reason. its a hobby that i plan in keeping

Don't expect to sell them for what you paid for them, unless you're talking pastels at today's prices - they've probably dropped as low as they will. Other morphs are still dropping in price, unfortunately.

If the big breeders see no money in ball pythons then there going to stop breeding and move to another species. so along as there money in the for the big breeders then were safe.

The big breeders also have the higher end morphs, that are still selling in the thousands.

I see you're in the UK, so your market is still a little different than ours. Here in the States, a normal male sells at shows for $20, females about $30 (babies). These are CBB babies, CH may sell for even less.

Not a single one of the morphs that I have in my collection (lemon pastel, lesser platinum, yellow belly, cinnamon, black pastel, spider, enchi, pinstripe, mojave, albino, het pied, het clown, het hypo) will sell for what I paid for them. I paid almost $1000 for my lemon pastel male in 2006, and that was a deal! Breeders here paid close to $20K for spiders, and are still breeding and selling them today.

Breeders adapt, breeders adjust. Breeders start making new combos that no one else has - that's why they stay in the business.
