Over heating/burns?

Okay so today I went out for a while and I asked my little brother to check the temps on my bp. So I come back and check on her temps and it was 99.4* I pull her out and half of her underbelly is a pinkish color. She is acting a little weird, like she hissed at me once and is more periscope-ing than moving around which is strange cuz she likes to explore. What I was wondering was that what can I do to help her? Like her belly is not swollen just a little pink can I put something on it? It doesnt seem to be burned just irritated. help?

How long have you had the snake and is this your first?

The reason I ask is because when I first got mine I worried about the same thing. 99.5 isn't hot enough to cause a burn or to cook them. Just adjust your T-stat and keep an eye on em.

Yeah its my first snake and I have had her for 3 months so i guess i could just be overreacting? I just wanted to make sure i didn't like hurt her or anything. thanks!

If it was only for a couple hours she is probably fine. A pink belly is also a sign of an upcoming shed, that might be why she hissed at you.

Periscoping is normal in ball pythons.. That isn't a problem.

Temps of 99.4 are obviously not enough to burn a snake (remember that your own body temp is 98.6 ) however the temps might have gotten higher especially if your heat source is not being controlled.

Do you have a thermostat to maintain proper temps and prevent over-heating?

If not get a thermostat before an accident happens! And if you do lower it down some 99.4 on the warm side is a bit too high for a BP

As said previously pink belly is also the sign of shedding.
