I cant keep the humidity up in my tank

I have a bp in a 30 long tank, & i spray the tank all day with water, i keep the heat lamp right above the water bowl & the humidity still stays at 30, it gets to about 50 when i first spray, but then it goes right back down

Use tin foil on the lid and try reading some of the other threads where others are having the same issue you are.

The whole thing minus a hole for your heat lamp and maybe a few holes randomly placed for ventilation and circulation. You don't need many though.

Maybe you can try ditching the heat lamp and get a UTH instead if you continue to have problems. I had a heat lamp years ago, and no matter how much I covered the lid, I still couldn't get the humidity where I wanted it. Since I switched, I have no issues with that anymore. It's even more difficult in the winter to get the humidity up too. It's very dry in the winter inside our houses.

i had this issue i live in alaska so lol..

if u use foil thats on someone else to explain but the card board is easy


take a box n cut just big enough for the light/lights to fit in then leave about an inch in the middle for air flow this will lock heat and humidity it

also i use sphagnum moss in a plastic bowl under my snakes light to make it humid

if u dont have this then im sure wet paper towel would work <?

I would think that cardboard would be a bad idea, because it would suck in moisture and possibly mold if there was not enough air circulation. Sphagnum moss is great though.

well mold yes dunno about the humidity thing lol if i dont have them on my humidity is 0 with them on 60 some times 80 when i hit 60 though i take my moss out and it sits at 60 until i open the cage again


i test all these ideas with the snake not in the cage lol just like when i tested what 2 100 watt baskings and the uth at full would do... total cage heat was 130 lol

but yeah i went with cardboard cuz i didnt think of the tin foil... but i would have an issue with that getting hot since it would be around my lights.. and my digi wire runs on the top of the cage

imo by just haven my bp for about 2 weeks... just do w/e comes to mind n see what works and what doesnt... just dont subject the snake to it

Cardboard will not work in the long term. It will suck humidity out of the cage and become wet over time. Aluminum tape or aluminum foil is better. Duct tape is even better than cardboard.

OP: The main problem is the heat light. If you turn it off you should observe your humidity shooting up. If your normal room temperature is above 70*F, I would highly suggest using only UTH belly heat instead of lights.

Other things that help humidity are:
A larger diameter water bowl
Covering the screen top with 2/3 aluminum foil or foil tape
Using a good moisture holding substrate like cypress mulch

No offense but have you ever used tin foil before? if you have ever taken anything out of the oven that has tinfoil over it you would know that you can touch it with your bare hands after a few seconds.

It took me less than 10 mins to do, and worked out great. I used black duct tape to match the tank, but you can buy different colored duct tape at walmart for like $3.00. Red, green, pink, etc.
