    normal females??

How many of you breed normal females, why and what are they bred to??
I know the large ones 900grams and bigger start under $100 I just dont know if it's a good idea to get a couple big normals.

Please feel free to chime in, I'm all ears

    Re: normal females??

Normals are a great asset to any collection because they can be bred to combo morphs like bumble bees and you could end up with pastels, bumble bees and pastels all in one clutch as well as normals... aAso you can use them to make hets, more of the co-dom morphs.... There are no real limits honestly with a good normal female. Also they are great for out crossing so you don't constantly inbreed...

    Re: normal females??

I personally will always have a need for Normal Females in my collection and im on the lookout for a few more ready for next season.

As tattlife2001 says they are great to breed with some Dom or co dom morphs as the clutches (hopefully) will produce Visual morph young.

And added to this the fact that Normals are in my eyes still absolutely beautiful snakes to look at.

Even though the trend nowa days seems to be heavily tipped in the morph side of the breeding game i think any breeder still has a duty to provide a sustainable supply of quality captive bred normals for future generations.

    Re: normal females??

I started with 9 normal females (among other things) and I am working toward slowly replacing them by morph and hets.

I no longer add normal females to my collection.

The morph and het females I produced in the past 2 seasons were almost all held back and some of them will soon be breeding.

    Re: normal females??

I haven't even had my first clutch yet but I think normal females are great to start out with. I plan to breed my Pewter male to my 2600 gram Normal.. Hoping to produce Pewters, Pastels, Cinnamons, and Normals. I plan on holding back all morph females I may produce.

    Re: normal females??

Over the last few years we worked to increase the number of normals that we have right now with 30 breeder normals we have all we're going to need. From a breeder stand point there's nothing like plugging a super male into a normal female and knowing that every egg is a morph and what morph it is. We no longer hold back normal females. From a production stand point it's nice to not have to guess from time to time what's hatching.

    Re: normal females??

We still have around 30 Normal Females but we also have around 90 Morph females too. We think that Normals are important because if you have a Male that you think will prove out to be something, you can breed him to Normals and find out. Also if you have Triple gene males Normal females are great for them because if you have the right male you wont produce Normals!

    Re: normal females??

As I am just starting out, I only have four females. Three of them are normals, and the other is a pinstripe. I don't really plan on adding more normals to my collection any time soon but instead will be getting a few morph females and maybe some hets. Don't get me wrong though, my normal girls are my favorite (but shhh don't tell the boys that)

    Re: normal females??

I'm about to buy a normal gal for my Mojave...I'm hoping to find the prettiest normal (in my eyes) to see if I can't get a few more wonderful Mojaves. Don't get me wrong, I plan to get at least one female of a nice morph this year sometime, but...right now, the normal is what I'm shopping for, as it were.
