about mice,

A few days ago I was feeding my BP, and he got a little bite from an overly feisty mouse :[ Someone had posted a thread at the same time my little guy got bit, and many of you suggested stunning the mouse beforehand.

So, how do you go about stunning a mouse before hand? I think it may really help with Noah, he isn't the best of strikers (or shedders, or eaters, or poopers, or anything, really. but I still love him )

Personally, I feed frozen/thawed. Although I have never tried it I understand that you can put the mouse in a box (like a shoe box) and shake it real good so the mouse gets dazed. Afterwards, immediately toss the mouse in with your ball python and hope for the best.

Well, when I got this guy he wouldn't eat (he actually seemed to be terrified of the mouse; I even tried a fuzzy and a pinkie to see if that would help, since they move around a little less, but no go) and when I went back to get more mice for my other snakes the guys at the Chicago Reptile House (where I got him) suggested bringing him back for a while so that they could put him in a special rack or something where they kept other snakes that weren't feeding well. It took about a month but they finally got him to eat, but ever since he's been, well, squishy, haha. He will also no longer eat f/t, i've tried several times. You'd think he'd be happy to have a meal that didn't scare him, but there you are.

Thanks for the suggestions, I guess I'll have to just keep pushing the f/t and see if he'll take it.

hahahha, I found it pretty funny too. When I mentioned it to my dad he suggested tying them to the ceiling fan and turning it on high, hahahahaha

I feed my BP f/t mice, but my friend who has a BP as well feeds his girl live mice,usually he holds them with the tongs by the tail then gives them a half decent thwack to the head...then he sends them into the tank,they dont move,only twich a little and before they can gather enough brain cells his ball gets them

That sounds terrible. What happens if the ball doesn't eat it?

What is your snakes setup like? That can have a lot to do with their eating habits.

I good knock on the head doesn't generally have a chance to hurt very much before the rodent gets dispatched for good by the snake, and swallowed. If you've ever taken a blow to the head before, you know the disorientation and confusion come some time before any pain sets in.
