    advice on some purchases

Hey! I was doing some shopping for my baby on bigappleherp.com. I'd like your feedback on some of the products I'm thinking about getting:

    1) I have a ReptiTemp 500R and I don't like it at all. I want one where I can set the temperature (much like one for the house). Also how do you guys attach the probes in a safe way for the snake? Rubix Cube seems to move them regardless of where I put them. I'm thinking about the BAH-1000SC thermostat.

    2) Heard anything about the cleaning stuff and how safe it is. Here's the link: http://www.bigappleherp.com/Big-Appl...=2&category=30

3)I want to get some kind of reptile carpet for his cage to make cleaning easy. Thoughts on ZooMed Eco Carpet: http://www.bigappleherp.com/Zoo-Med-Eco-Carpets

    Thanks!

also for the bedding i would go with aspen. that reptiles carpet stuff just doesnt seem to be practical to me. after a while of use i would believe it to retain a foul smell and possibly bacteria

You can put the probes inbetween the glass and the uth! They can't get to it there!

oh I thought the probes had to be in the tank to get an accurate measurement. the humidity probe from the therm/hygrom does though, right?

The thermostat probe does not go inside the enclosure. The snake can easily move it or pee on it and give the thermostat an incorrect reading making it heat up too much or not enough. The thermometer and hygrometer probes go inside the tank, yes.

If you want a thermostat with numbers, get a ranco or johnson controls thermostat. The BAH-1000 is just as junky as the reptitemp.

I would stay clear of the cage carpet. Reusable substrates just don't work well with ball pythons. I don't know if you have experienced a godzilla poo yet but let me assure you, you don't want any of that sticking around to smell up the place later.

Go to the reptile basics website (http://reptilebasics.com) for good thermostats and cleaning supplies. I would actually suggest you place your whole order with them.

Get bioshield from pro-products. It kills 99% of the pathogens and keeps killing them for up to three months i think. In my opinion theres nothing better. And its 100% safe for reptiles. As for the cage carpet, that just equals a ripoff. Use aspen, paper towels, or newspaper. Now to the t-stat. This is a great example of, you get what you pay for. Get a herpstat. There is nothing better in my opinion. I had a johnsons, but didnt like the constant flux in temps and the turning on and off of the RHPs. Now i have a herpstat II and i love it. Nitedrop, on/off mode or proportional, dual probes. After having my herpstat i wouldnt get anything else.
