What is the basic recipe for killing mites?

Picked up an Albino boa last week. Didnt notice any mites at the time. Have not seen anything until today I went to check on him and noticed 2 tiny black bugs crawling on him. Checked him tonight and didnt see anything else. Changed all the newspaper in the QT rack.

Gonna pick up a can of provent a mite. My question is once I spray my totes inside and out when do I spray them again?

Also do I need to treat the carpet in the room to prevent the mites from hiding or laying eggs that will come back at a later time.
Anyone know how long those things can live outside the enclosure with out a host?

follow the directions and you will be set. Normally takes one or two treatments. I had a snake shipped to me with mites and with one application the mites were gone and have not been seen since. I spray the outside and inside of the tubs as well as there hides. Let it dry and then put the snake back in and put the water bowl back in. I think mites can live for around 20 days i could be wrong with no host. Some one correct me if im wrong. Also you can pam the enclosure once a month to prevent mites from ever coming back.

Would you recommend spraying the carpet with something to prevent them from hiding in the carpet? I think my plan is gonna be spray all totes inside and out and then do it again in 2 weeks and then do the once a month maintenance.

I am really stressed about this now....Havent had a mite problem in years. Hopefully this provent a mite woks as good as Ive been reading

trust me it works just like youve been reading. Ive used it and havnt seen a mite since i did the first spraying. You can spray the carpet if you want and around the cage or rack what ever you keep your snake in. This is prevent them for up to a month and it also kills any eggs laid by the mites. Depending on how bad the infestation is you may need to reapply it another time. But one time worked for me.

Provent-a-mite is a great product. There is another product out there called Jurrasi-mite which can be directly sprayed on the reptile that works very well. Plain Listerine works directly on reptiles also. Any Pyrethroid aerosol will work on the carpet, but be careful not to go too crazy with it.
