    Light Box Trials II (DUW)

Since some of our males had a few days off I though I would get some pics with the new homemade light box. The lighting is still dark and I had to compensate with some editing. Need some higher wattage bulbs. These guys were not the best subjects. I was messing up their "me" time .

How does the white balance look to everyone?

    Enjoy!

Normal female - forgot to post with the last group of pics.

Pastel male - not the brightest but I love his pattern.

    Pastel male again

    And again

Hypo male - this guy is REALLY hard to photograph, his colors are bright and his blushing is so smoky they kind of mess with the camera.

Lesser male. He's young but seems interested in the ladies already

    Lesser male again

Finally, our Yellowbelly male. I've been looking for a female with crazy flames but when ever I have the cash I can't find one I like and end up getting something I'm not looking for .

Your white balance looks off to me. It's different in each one. Getting the correct exposure is pretty critical when shooting on white too. Your light is bouncing up and spilling over onto your snake.

You can buy a card for less than $5 that is 18% grey. Most cameras have a custom white balance setting. Use the card to set your WB for the shoot and you are good to go.

If you use any type of photo editing software and correct your WB in post it works just as well if you shoot RAW.

I saw that you were in Program mode according to the exif data in your shots. If you can set your camera to manual it will keep your shots consistent from one to the next.

I suggest setting the whole thing up, taking a few test shots to check then get your subject ready. Snakes, kids, models it's all the same. They lose interest when you are fiddling around with the camera.

White is hard to shoot on. I was going to take some shots of one of our little snakes tonight on black, I'll post them up if you are interested in seeing them.

Thanks for the input. Yeah, the white balance isn't consistent. Basically now I just have a Kodak point-and-shoot I'm using/playing around with. It doesn't have a white balance setting. All I could mess with was the exposure settings. Hopefully soon I will be able to get an upgrade.

I'd love to see your pics!

I'm not much of a photo person, if it takes more than pointing and clicking I haven't really gotten into it.

But to comment on your snakes. That normal has a nice clean pattern and I like the numerous saddles on your pastel.
