Feeding in habitat?
Today I fed my ball python for the first time, I put the rat in her habitat. Do you guys think its bad to feed her this way since she may think every time I come in there that its going to be food? Or is it ok if I continue this way as long as I take her out every now and then between feedings? Whats your guy's opinion on this.

Re: Feeding in habitat?
I feed all my babies in their enclosures. I take them out twice a week, but never on feeding day or for 48 hours after a feed. The only one I worry about is my hubby's mental little normal. All 7 of mine know just because mommy is here it does not mean we are eating.
Of course they all also know exactly what day is feeding day, and they all spend most of the day anxiously watching "mama" to come in with dinner. lol
I can handle on feeding day as long as I move slowly and calmly, and stroke their backs before picking them up.
I don't think you'll have any problems as long as you don't only mess with them for feeding.

In the enclosures. Mine actually now figured it out that went prescent their cages and 30 min later I get the tongs and get all strike ready. haha Then just drop it the food in with the tongs and BAM.

Its a hit or miss thing I think when it comes to them becoming a little more aggressive when feeding in the enclosure. I feed mine in the enclosure and some of them are still shy and wait patiently while others wait at the door of the hide, and as soon as the bin opens they come out in "kill something" mode haha. They don't want to hurt me they just think its time to eat, and are very used to the routine. Heres the thing, just like one of the above people said. "I can handle on feeding day as long as I move slowly and calmly, and stroke their backs before picking them up." If I want to handle and they think its feeding time and are in strike mode, I take the hide off carefully without my arm or hand coming to close to the strike zone(loving the terminology aren't you?), and cover there face with it. I then pet there back to let them know whats up, and that has never done me wrong yet. If I just reach in there they chase my hand around analyzing it seeing if its food, others will just strike because there nuts haha.

Re: Feeding in habitat?
I have always and will always feed in the enclosures. I've gotten some cage aggression in the past, but nothing too serious. If you're seriously worried about being bitten (or if you have a large snake), hook training is an option.

Re: Feeding in habitat?
i feed both my snakes in their enclosure. when i first got my corn i used to feed him in a seperate tube cause i heard of the aggression thingy but he gave me a load of troubles to eat. when i started feeding him in his enclosure , he stoped giving me trouble and eats prety well. when i got my ball i instantly started feeding her in her enclosure. the only time i got attack was by my corn during feeding because hi missed and once by my ball python cause i startled her.
my opinion is , feed in the enclosure = less trouble. unless you have a large snake its only a small hurtless bite anyway. if you feed live like me you won't have the trouble of them miss targeting since you just need to put the mouse in. the miss target with my corn happened cause since it was a pinky and wasn't moving i had to wigle it a bit in front of him.
