Fleas?
I work for a rental company (houses, apts that kinda stuff) and I often have to go into places that are not in the best condition. Well last Friday I was in a house that had a TON of cats. When I got home I noticed a flea on my jacket, I killed it as soon as I saw it. Now last night I was changing the water in my BPs tank and found another flea floating in his water dish.
I know that mites can be a problem but I don't know anything about fleas.
I'm super worried about him and don't really know what to do...
Help?

Re: Fleas?
From what I've read, fleas shouldnt be a concern for your BPs because fleas go for warm blooded animals.
I would be more concerned about the fleas making camp in my home and feeding off me / the furry pets.

Re: Fleas?
Yes Fleas will not harm your snake only bother them if they became heavily populated.
Best way to treat them without bombing the house are pest strips. Ive done this once and it helped. Only had to deal with fleas once with my cat and now hes got those frontline treatments. Then again where i live fleas are seasonal and if i have too ill move the snakes out to a friends house and bomb the house.

Re: Fleas?
The cat and dog are protected, good to know they shouldn't bother him, I put some flea traps out. Lets hope it works. Thanks

Re: Fleas?
Craziest flea solution I've ever heard, was from my 5th grade teacher. He said that he sprinkled detergent (don't know if it was clothing or dishwasher, don;t think it matters though) on his carpets, so when the flees landed on them their shells would crack. He said it worked, just when he cleaned that carpet it got very bubbly.

Re: Fleas?
Fleas are a pain in the rear, it is very important to get them under control before they go nuts in your house. Season has nothing to do with your situation once you introduce them. Treating the areas where your pets sleep/rest is the most important areas to start. Fipronil/Frontline is the best product on the market at this time and should wipe out any that go after your treated animals. The biggest problem will be if the fleas establish themselves and start laying eggs, then they will '' go away then come back''. You can set up a water dish in the middle of the room at night on a white towel with a dome lamp over it to see how bad your situation is. Be very careful in other peoples apartments in case you didn't know bedbugs are back in a very bigway also.

Re: Fleas?
I love that about living in the high desert. There are no flea's and no chiggers. Twice while living in Kansas I had a flea outbreak, even with the normal stuff to stop them on my animals. I'm not un kept at all. I had to bomb my house. That would be a disaster now, with all the snakes and mice.
