Normal het Albino Ball Python?
I saw an ad for one of these and I was just wondering if someone could educate me on what this would end up looking like? Would this be the standard white and yellow or or something different? The reason I ask is because in looking for albino's, I've seen some that look more like standard BP's then anything else.

A 100% Het Albino is a Normal Colored Ball that is carrying the Albino gene.

Re: Normal het Albino Ball Python?
A het albino looks like a normal BP it just carries the heterozygous gene to make the homozygous form (albino). Here is a list of genetic terms.
Allele - either of the two paired genes affecting an inherited trait (one from the father, one from the mother).
Codominant - an allele that causes the homozygous form to look different than wild type and the heterozygous form to have traits of both. (All three look different from each other.) Below is a list of genetic terms.
Dominant - an allele that causes the homozygous form and the heterozygous form to look the same as each other, but different than wild type.
Recessive - an allele that affects a animal's appearance if it's present in the homozygous state only. An animal that's heterozygous for a mutant, recessive gene looks wild type, but that gene can be passed on to offspring.
Heterozygous - having two different alleles for a genetic trait.
Homozygous - having identical alleles for a genetic trait.
Wild Type - the way an animal looks with the greatest frequency in a wild population ("normal").

Albinos are soo cheap now you might as well just go out and get one. I am sure if you are patient enough and keep browsing the classifieds on kingsnake.com you will find a good deal. Just make sure your buying from someone with a good reputation. Theres alot of people out there looking to take advantage. .

What do you mean by cheap? They are $800 up here in Canada. I'd be willing to cross the boarder to pick one up if I could find one.

Would it be worth the fines when you get busted trying to bring it back? Please stop trying to break laws as the wrong person sees this it makes us all look bad

Joe, don't assume that he's intentionally trying to break the law. He probably is not aware of the law, and therefore a better response would have been to let him be aware of the law, not chastise him for something he wasn't aware of. You are probably thinking of a different user that used the same avatar.
To the OP - in order to transport a ball python from the States into Canada, the seller needs to apply for a CITES permit to export the animal out of the States (which you would pay for) and you would need to acquire an import permit for that shipment. By the time you're done paying the fees for both, you'll probably end up spending the same as you would in Canada.
There's a reason why prices are higher in Canada - supply and demand.

Re: Normal het Albino Ball Python?
haha your best bet is to move to the states most likely and buy one here haha no in all seriousness though this is what you could do if you wanted to have some fun with it....
Buy two het albino's a male and a female... then pair them to breed out. If BOTH of your snakes are het albino then hypothetically 1/4 of your eggs will be albino, 1/2 of your eggs will be het for albino, and 1/4 of your eggs will be strictly normal. Then you can keep the albino you wanted to begin with, sell the rest, or keep them for your collection.
That way you get your albino, possibly make your money back, don't break any laws many of us are unaware of and you produced the snake yourself which is always a special feeling.
