    RI Again!!

ok so i started of with her RI when winter came. i treated her with baytril orally but no luck. tried 8 amikacin shots every three days, it went away but came back. so at first sign of it comin back i got 8 more shots of amikacin and just gave the last one today and she is still sick. went back to the vet and now they want to do all types of blood work and crazy expensive stuff. im not really worried about the money i just dont want to throw money around again and not make her better. i have to call the vet in a few days when the amikacin is almost out of her system to make an appointment. anyone have any advice on how i should proceed?

oh ya, she eats fine. temps are 85-93 cuz the vet said to bump it up a bit. fresh water everyday and 60-70% humidity to prevent dehydration from the meds. she seems completely happy but she is just sick

    Re: RI Again!!

    Hi,

This is why we recommend the slightly more expensive route of getting a culture done when you first take it to the vets.

That way when the results come back the vet would be able to switch medication if needed to one that has a higher effectiveness against the specific cause.

I would ask him why he thinks the bloodwork is needed ( he might have a very good reason after all ) and ask about getting a sensitivity test (or whatever they are called ) on a swab taken from the snakes throat.

Just my $0.02. (no refunds )

i couldn't agree more. Thats why i had all three of my sick bps cultured to insure they were on the correct meds. So far so good. 2 weeks into meds with another 2 left they have all come around nicely. I bathe them for 10-15 mins in warm water everyday for the 30 days of treatment.

Higher humidity can also help break up mucus. Not sure if she has any of that.

very good. This will help bring up some of the mucus making it easier for the snake to breathe. Keep us posted on how the snake is doing
